I use the popularity contest plugin to display the popularity of each post. How can I remove the numbers and instead have only the post names?

Do you mean this plugin? Check the plugin settings first, there may be an option to turn it off. They are found in the Dashboard => Settings => Popularity Contest

If not you will have to edit the plug in to remove it from the display.
