$65 One page design contest for an online education website (uncoded - 48 hours)

I'm holding an uncoded web design contest for a client site online--degree.com. The following key points should be incorporated into your design:

    • The header should be very large, ( at least H = 721px) similar in size to www.findonlinecolleges.net
    • A widget should be included in the header: this widget should be of similar size, but not in style, as the widget at www.findonlinecolleges.net
    • A sidebar with links should be included as with www.anyonlinedegrees.com
    • Pictures, symbols, and exact designs from www.findonlinecolleges.net or www.anyonlinedegrees.com should not be used in the design

The logo files for each file type can be found in the following links:
    psd
    png
    tiff
    jpeg(big)
    jpeg(small)
    bmp

Please submit all questions and submissions through the thread, rather than sending me a PM. That way I don't have to repeat myself, and the whole general contest can benefit from your creativity.

The contest will be for 48 hours, or until a clear winner is decided on. I will give prompt feedback for the submissions as the contest runs (unless I'm sleeping at the time). Please let me know in the thread if you have any questions, and best of luck!

Yes, go ahead and plan it like that, though the client hasn't thought out what he wants on the widget yet, and so that will most likely be flexible for now.

@BS_webdeciphers: Thanks! I like the length of the header and having objects below the main part of the header area. I also like the sidebar and coloring. Please remove the top navigation bar, the register now and the home/sitemap at the top. Navigation will be in the sidebar. The footer is also appropriate, and it looks good. The picture is nice, but the white border with shadowing is a bit plain. Could you try something more interesting? Also, I like the idea of graphics below the picture and widget area, but they seem disjointed and there is too much white space (plus I do not feel comfortable having Amazon's name there on the Kindle for copyright issues, even if it is a stock photo). Finally, the Get Started Now! button should be a big focus. I like the contrasting color. Could you make it a bit bigger and maybe add a 3D effect to it so it pops out a little? Thanks for the great submission!

@technoguy: Thanks for the submission! I showed it to the client, and he liked it. However, he did not like the green coloring. Could you change the green to a different color? Thanks!

@technoguy: Thanks for the modifications. Is there a difference between the 2 versions in your last post? They look the same to me. I should have been more clear. The client really liked the way the background color popped and the way the shading varied at the top and got lighter around the logo. He just doesn't like the green, but he does wants a color (not gray). Perhaps something in the blue family to contrast with the orange with the same effects at the top where the shading varies? You are the artist, so I will leave it to you to find a color that works.

@technoguy: So the client had lots of things to say about your designs. He really likes the overall layout of the page. One thing he mentioned to me is that he liked the original submission (the bright green) for a few reasons: he likes the brightness of the color that makes it really stand out, and contrasted with the black it looked really nice; he just didn't like the green color. (bright, but not green). Secondly, he liked how the color was brought into the sidebar and main body. However, you did not change the sidebar and main body colors to match the headers in your other submissions. He did not like the gray and therefore had a really hard time deciding which one he liked best. Could you add the coordinating colors to the sidebar and main body for onlinedegree1 and onlinedegree3? Thanks!

BS_webdeciphers: Thanks for the changes! I showed them to the client, and he liked the design, but wants 3 changes: 1. He thinks the sidebar looks a little bland- could you spice it up a little? 2. He doesn't love the stock photo in the header (but he does like the words "The path to success" and the border. Could you try a different photo? 3. The area under the header looks better with less white but still isn't what he's looking for. Could you try something new? Thanks for your work!
