SBI and Paypal

    Hello,

About 2 weeks ago I applied for a Debit card with the State Bank of India for the purpose of shopping via Paypal. I received my 'State Bank Cashplus' card earlier today. I was quite disappointed to find out I can't actually add this card to my Paypal account or shop online using this Debit card. I do not have an Income(Student) and hence can't apply for a VISA/Mastercard credit card.
My question, I was told there is a certain type of Debit card that SBI issues which acts just like a credit card and can be used to make online purchases via Paypal and on other shopping websites ? Could someone tell me which is it ?

    Thanks in advance : ).

Certainly, you cannot use debit card of any service in india. Instead you can open hdfc bank account, and you can generate virtual credit cards, and add to paypal and shop with ease.

    Hello makaveli-313!

I wanted to let you know that there are several Debit Cards provided by State Bank of India which can be used for purchases made through web and all have their eligibility criterias associated with them. If you're a savings or current account holder and your age is between 18 years and 30 years you can apply for SBI YUVA Internation Debit Card which is VISA based and can be used for purchase made through web and you don't have to maintain a fixed quarterly balance to have SBI YUVA Internation Debit Card.

If you need more clarification or information in this regard feel free to send me a PM.

    Towards your success,
    Shyam Singh (MCTS)

I am sorry but Paypal does not oblige attaching any debit cards issued by any Indian Banks. The reason seems to be denial of regulatory approval to Paypal for direct debits from Indian bank accounts... I guess.

Debit cards will not work with Paypal. Credit cards are served only to those who are having steady source of income, but you can get a SBI Credit Card through fixed deposit (min. Rs.10,000/-) too. You need to contact the local branch manager regarding this issue.

Instead of a debit card or a VCC, try to get yourself a credit card as it will offer you the facility to use funds for a month... free of any charge! :)

Just talk to them and get a CC instead of VCC/Debit Card.

Thought I'd post an update here since it might be informative.
My recently acquired Yuva International Debit Card works flawlessly on any international site I've tried. Created a virtual credit card with it as well via Entropay website and added a card to my paypal with it. Hope this helps anyone else visiting this site with my orignal problem :).
Thanks everyone for their input :)
