That would be a better option for you than the free accounts.

I think wordpress should let advertisements like blogger. This restriction decreases its popularity.

Yes, you can put adsense into your WP blog. If you wish to add your adsense codes to your sidebar, just locate the sidebar template in your presentation admin panel. Cut and paste your adsense code for say a skyscaper ad design and put it there.

I agree but it only decreases popularity with those who want to open a blog to make money. Keeping wordpress the way it is stops people from launching spam blogs - maybe thats why the way it is.

It's not a good marketing strategy if they want to have bigger market share.

Ofcourse there is a demand for the blogs without spam. But the supply side of this demand has to be considered. Since they don't let their blog writers to publish ads, they should find another way to encourage their blog writers.

*not to go way off topic on this thread*

They dont need to encourage writers as their platform is already the choosen CMS by web hosts, how many hosting companies offer a blogger account?

I actually prefer the free word press account with no ads and I use it for a number of blogs that are just for fun.

Can you give an idea where you saw it?
We might be interested to look at it.. :D :D

As far as I know, if the blog is not violating any term set by adsense, you can have it displayed. You can't say that you should not use in a free wordpress blog.

    hi,
    for clarification:
you don't need your hosting company to offer a blogger account.

from blogger you can choose to have the content hosted on your webhost.
i did it for a while when starting out.
you have slightly more control than having it hosted at blogger/blogspot.

    --
my gut feel is that anyone serious about blogging will eventually move to wordpress or another platform such as movable type.

cos blogger is crippled in the amount of SEO and promo you can do.
especially if you build it up to PR5 or higher, you're behoven to blogger and i've heard of some high profile bloggers who had their account unceremoniously frozen/banned because they inadvertedly violated ToS in the course of their blogging.

the bottomline: blogger is good to play around with when you start out, wordpress is there for you to make serious income when you're ready.

I was speaking about Wordpress Faq, not Adsense one.
Wordpress Faq says - no adsense , no javascript

If you are hosting WordPress script on your own server, you may include whatever ads on it. If you are using a free account from Wordpress.com, you can't use javascript on it. This is what I learn when I'm using Wordpress.com in the old days.

However, I've heard a news recently that Wordpress.com will choose some great bloggers and give them a free premium account, which allow javascript. The choosen one should be a popular blog that receive 100k pageview each month if I'm not mistaken.

from my experience, your adsense income is nothing fantastic unless you have at least 10,000 visitors daily.

assuming a 1% clickthrough rate, 10,000 visitors yields about 100 clickthroughs.
assuming an average of $0.20 per click through, you are looking at $20 per day from adsense.

$20 per day times 30 days is $600.

    Is that decent?
it's not too shabby, but i doubt you'd quit your day job to get adsense full time.

in the long run, most bloggers will use a combination of adsense and affiliate mktg to generate their income.

I get about 95% of my income from affiliate mktg, adsense merely covers the hosting costs.

    hope this helps.
    :)
