Hi I have done a search and couldnt find the answer. If you are creating a Google Adword ad and you want to use: ie. Nike Shoe Sale * or Nike Shoe Sale // Is the * and // considered and illegal character according to google guidelines?? I have seen ads like that so I was curious if they were doing it and just not getting caught or ? Thanks in advance,
They are not illegal per se although Google calls them gimmicky. They can increase the click rate but simply because they attract the eye to the ad a bit more. In my opinion, they are a waste of valuable space in general. Best to use your limited space with good, solid features and benefits rather than trying to trick readers to click. Note that you cannot overdue it as well. For example, you cannot have more than one exclamation point. That's considered gimmicky.
Yeah thats what I thought. But I have seen where different advertisers have the SAME title as everyone else and then you see the same title with the * Bottom line: can you get in trouble or penalized or suspended for using a * or a / Thanks again
Depends on context. Stars and asterisks can be used in certain circumstances http://adwords.google.com/support/a...28425&guide=28423&page=guide.cs&answer=176095 Outside of that - you can use them until your ad gets checked and disallowed. Some advertisers push the envelope until they get a slap on the wrist. In the first instance they'll just stop the ad - you won't get suspended for it unless you keep doing it.
To find why your ads has been disapproved, login to your Adwords account and click on the Campaign Management tab. Then click on Disapproved Ads under the Analyze Your Ad Performance section. This useful Disapproved Ads Tool will tell you the when, what, where, and why’s for disapproved ad text. It will also provide suggestions for improving your ad text.
