I wasn't hundred percent sure, when choosing this section but since the domain name is key, I placed it here. But actually this is about the domain name in SEO/link building strategies and the use of subdomains. A good domain name has certainly some value for SEO and with a subdomain one can actually get different keyword combinations. Let's say for example one has the main domain quotes.com This is obviously an advantage, when getting listed for searches containing quotes. My strategy now would entail to include subdomains like: insurance.quotes.com plumbing.quotes.com and the like. Questions arising would be. 1. How would links between those subdomains have an effect of SEO for google? 2. How would separate links to each subdomain effect the total domain? 3. How does the additional keyword in the subdomain name have an effect on the total ranking for relevant searches?
My guess is that they would be equivalent to owning a regular domain with the same terms (i.e. insurance.quotes.com would rank equally to insurancequotes.com considering both domains were indexed at the same time for the first time ever). Everything else would be based on the backlinks pointing to it and whatever keyword relevancy search engines place on it according to the text used on the entire site.
Thanks, I would hope it is like that. I do however suspect that the subdomain wording ranks lower then the actual domain name. So the actual one-word domains would do better.
Does anyone have experience with subdomains and SEO? What I am also thinking of is the influence of IP addresses, when i.e. google ranks such a site.
