Changes every DPer should make (including Shawn!)

The general consensus is nobody likes the idea but me. Read on if you care to see what it is... :D

I personally like it because I don't have to keep checking the User CP for replies to threads I'm interested in.

    For DP users
    Open your User CP
    Edit Options
Find "Default Thread Subscription Mode" and change it to "Instant email notification"
    Save Changes

    For Shawn
    Open your vBulletin Control Panel
    vBulletin Options > vBulletin Options
    User Registration Options
Set "Automatic Thread Subscription Mode" to "Instant email notification"
    Save

When you enable these settings, everytime you create a new thread or respond to a thread, you're automatically "subscribed" to that thread and you're sent an e-mail when there are replies to it.

I only stay subscribed to the threads I actually care to follow, so I don't get flooded with e-mails bout every damn post.

Most people don't bother setting this or even know what it does. It also increases forum traffic and activity for those who run forums. ;)

But DP have enough traffic already, i dont like the Instant Email Notifications, and it annoys me. Whenever i recieve an email from any forum saying "'xxxx" thread had recieved a reply at xxxxx forum".

In Gmail i quickly move that email to spam :D. So if DP start it, alot of people like me will move it to spam. :D:D.

    Anyways... good idea.

Although the point about increasing forum traffic is true I still can't help the urge to throw rotten meat in your direction. :D

    Geeze.

As if I need an email everytime someone replies to a thread I'm subscribed to.

Here's an alternative - click the 'User CP' link and you will get a nice list of all the threads you are subscribed to.

Depends on the type of meat you are throwing. Is it venison? Kangaroo? Emu? Dinosaur? :D

This sounds awful. Consider that you might take part in 20 threads a day, and each of those threads receive 10 replies after you've left your message. The trouble of deleting 200 pointless e-mails from my inbox each day is far greater than the pain and anguish caused by missing a reply to one of my posts, such as:

    :p

That's why I unsubscribe from threads I don't care about. Point taken, though.

Anytime I get a member too stupid to turn off subscriptions and send forum email to spam as a result, I ban them.

That's what Shawn should do. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Omg... I'd be subscribed to the "hottest girl on DP" thread... And have 9k emails...

That would be a little annoying imo... I think this is good for slower forums but DP is so fast you would just be bothered by all the emails... Not that that's a bad thing I love the fact that DP is so fast :)

I set this as the default setting for every forum I signup for. Only way to keep up with everything.

Just think, MrX, if you were signed up to the notification service you'd now have 13 pointless emails clogging your inbox in the space of one hour and ten minutes :)

Beats missing out on one gem of info :) With Gmail it compiles all emails from the same address in the one email, so it's all good anyway.

Isn't it a lot easier to use "Thread Tools >> Subscribe to this thread" option that's available in each and every thread? Why increase server load by sending too many notification emails to every forum member?

I personally don't think that it's an useful idea (particularly for DP server).

It takes more clicks to open the emails than it does to get to the 'User CP' of a forum. ;)
