New Delhi: The tourism industry has earned billion as foreign exchange for the country, but its growth in India is also making skeptics sit up and take a close look at its darker side – sex tourism. In fact the Ministry of Women and Child Development has commissioned a study on sex tourism in India. Taking a serious note of the rise in sex tourism in the country, the Government is looking into some of the cases in the recent past like two British nationals, Duncan Grant and Allan Waters, who face charges of paedophilia. Another state government report in Andhra Pradesh revealed an increase in HIV cases near the holy town of Tirupati. So a study is being conducted to find out how the growth in the tourism industry is also fuelling prostitution in the country. The study was commissioned to a non-government organisation (NGO) but it was kept under wraps since the issue was sensitive. The study, which is being conducted by Gram Niyojan Kendra, covers more than 18 states in various tourist centres, including religious sites. The elaborate study also includes interviews of over 1,000 victims of sex trade at various tourist spots. "It’s a very important study. One has to study the effect of a fledging industry in the country,†Director of Centre for Social Research Ranjana Kumari said. The initial data trickling in indicates that the problem is within the country – domestic tourists rather than the foreign ones are fuelling sex trade in India. The final report is slated to be out by November this year, which could very well help policy makers regulate and channelise an industry which is the country's top foreign earner after information technology.
There you go, atleast they are facing charges. What happens to pedophiles in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia? Besides that I find nothing wrong with sex tourism. The government should make it a recognized industry and give rights and protection to workers rather than be paranoid about it.
Im talking about indian issue, not Paki or KSA.. recognized industry? how they build such industries? by kidnapings girls from Kashmir.. also its been said the india is the world's biggest market for Kidnapped girls & women sellers, also a huge supplier of girls to Israel.
Currently the prostitution business is illegal in India (prostitution is legal but you can't make it an organised business). Recognizing means making it legal, keeping a roll of sex worker, let them take part in Employee Provident fund schemes, enable them to get health/hazardous job insurance, give them the protection of labor laws and quit harassing them. If all that happens the problems related to prostitution, pimping like pedophilia, holding girls against there will (happens everywhere) will automatically be solved and we will have a thriving industry bringing in quite some change of Foreign exchange. There's a lot of debate going on and I am confident that in this decade it will be legalised. Commercial Surrogacy is already legalized and people from all over the world come here for that, nice as it increases our gene pool Says who? You? Or your Mullah teacher? LOL, how can a orthodox Islmaic hate speech be complete without brining the jews into it!!
I remember many scandals have been in the news about Indian Army doing such jobs.. Dont make fun,, its a serious issue... its not india's issue. Its issue related to humanity
I also don't think Sex Tourism is all that bad and besides, I think that Helvetii has a point in eradicating pedophilia pimps and girls being kidnapped for prostitution. Do you think that these criminals will stop if you still stick with it being illegal? As they say, the more people say it is forbidden, the more they'll be tempted do it.
Interesting to find out what religion Helvetii belongs to ? and wht your religion says about that what you are talking about here?
I'm an Atheist and there's nothing wrong with legalizing commercial prostitution, when surrogacy can be legal then why is it a big deal?
Legalizing things makes a lot more sense - but I'd like to hear you answer babak44's question. Also, whether or not you are cyb3rking or thegr4
yeah we have this either but not much tourist come to our country. you think if it bring money form tourist is bad for a country and disgusting? what's different? http://www.iran-press-service.com/ips/articles-2004/june/iran_sex_export_11604.shtml http://iranbebin.com/showthread.php?tid=108
bluntly speaking r u a moron ? who is obsessed with "0" ground zero facts Your obsession doesn't seem to end in any near bounds, in India the culprit be an govt. worker or a non-state worker - a crime is a crime. We are not like gulf r pak to hide the facts about their armed forces mistakes. Just dig up if you could find a guilt of an army worker in a guilty crime in those regions - so all are so perfect ?, to make an mistake is a human nature and they are punished accordingly. Actions are taken when they are proved and its a very well known fact on how and who supports the false human right agitations. lol!!! who is talking about humanity getting down to the point, legalizing Sex Tourism, is much better than the illegal prostitution. It at least generates revenue to the govt. than filling few goons pockets. German leads the way for the sex trade, correct me if I am wrong and German made lots of bucks during last WC in sex trade. Actually legalizing will solve more than a few probs, it would bring more about a transparent society. If some one wants to enroll in prostitution with their desire, its up to the individual to decide, u can't force them to quit - if they find its their mean of earning bucks. Kidnapping or forced sex trade is a crime and there are several NGO's and forces trying to tackle these issues, India is in no means a small country to track each and every one's background. Even media help in nabbing the culprits. Last month, an C.I.D officer from Andhra Pradesh was given off an honor award for successfully nabbing some "illegal flesh traders" by US for. min. Hillary Clinton. if you talk about religious issue, since Hinduism leads the way in India, its not a crime to be enrolled in prostitution according to the religion. They are called "Devadasi".
No there are no scandals in which Indian army is/was involved probably your media in Pakistan (if I am not wrong ) feeds you this crap, atleast provide a link while claiming such nonsense Kidnapping girls from Kashmir, damn does your imagination runs wild or what, Kashmir is a state in India and prostitution is illegal, human trafficking does happen and the girls are mostly brought to big cities in India majorly from rural India, Bangladesh and Nepal to work in bars that many a times double up as prostitution den etc
Owing to the illegal nature of the business, people involved in it lacks ethics and morality turning things worse for India. They should better legalize it and make things transparent.
Another reason to legalize it is that once something becomes a (legal) industry, there are regulations and the like to help protect those involved within the business. Legalizing it means money for the government and more safety and benefits for those involved in the trade; it's win-win.
giving industry status to prostitution will most importantly empower those hapless women of whom 99.99% are victim of circumstances. the pimps, the goons, the politicians, the police etc etc all exploit them cause prostitution is illegal.
