Hello, I'm considering ordering a 3-year hatchling plan. From what I see on the main page, they are providing unlimited space. And I'm not sure if that is really true. Is it just for show? Are they overselling?

Because I really need the space. I want to host almost 1TB of data.

Ask yourself that question again. Are they overselling? Of course they are.

You won't be able to host 1TB of data, they'll suspend you.

You should probably start looking for a dedicated server.

IMO: Never lock yourself in a hosting contract for more than a year at a time.

Sometime, paying an hosting package for more than one year means a great price cut... but unlimited doesn't exist at all.

It's like if they give to the client the status of "immortal" and without limits... but guess what, reading TOS you will find "Of course you are a super hero but don't try to fly otherwise you can die" that means... No! We cannot give you unlimited space because you are resident in a shared server and you cannot decide to take all the space and resources for you.

The problem is that cheap hosting are driving crazy the big of the situation that are also following this fool idea of giving the moon for $1 dollar per month... obviously praying all the night that no one will decide to create a new facebook on their server...

As stated above unlimited is a blunt lie. I wouldn't ever use a host that says "UNLIMITED EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!" Because we all know that's not true.. And yes they oversell a lot or they wouldn't be offering the plans they do for the price they offer them at.

Its best to get hosting from month to month until you are not expecting to grow at all. There are a lot of website where you can get month-to-month contract hosting with 30 day money back guarantee.

Also no host will be able to provide unlimited or unmetered hosting. You will get suspended if you are over using resources.

there is no such thing called unlimited in shared, because as soon your website start using more resources than a normal site use, you get suspended, before no good host were offering unlimited thing, but since some small reseller started this trend, and everyone want unlimited, weather they need it or not, so every host following same thing now, but still once site use more resources, they get suspended.

Once you buy a plan you get locked yourself and there is no refund on such cases, because you buying plan on cheaper cost, so according to your traffic plan choose the host

Some host allow, upgrading plan and adjusting money towards it, so you may want discuss that before with your host, if they can do that, if needed

I've used hostgator for one year now. They are no doubt the best hosting company i've ever found specially for the shared hosting. i also used the hatchling plan for about 9 months then upgraded to business plan, there is no difference in space or bandwidth except it gives you SSL and dedi IP.
Well, if your sites are not heavy traffic so hostgator is the perfect for you. but if your sites need much space, bandwidth CPU, RAM, MYSQL (like my sites) they will ask you to upgrade to VPS/DEDI or move to another host.

Your question is unlimited, yes it's about unlimited and may be more than unlimited. I used 300GB space and about 450GB bandwidth monthly for just 9$ that's very good.

One thing also their support is ex termly helpful, they will not ignore you or tell you that "there is no error at our end", they will still with you until you get a solve for your problem.

Finally, I recommend hostgator for starter business but sooner or later, you'll have to upgrade.
-be careful in their admins someone called Adam D., try to avoid him. you'll not be happy to talk with him :)
Good luck. PM if you need more help :D

He's not asking if they're reliable, I'm pretty sure that the OP has established that Hostgator isn't too bad.

But think about it this way... Hostgator puts Lemezo on a server with:

    4 x 1TB SATA HD
    10TB Bandwidth

Do you really think Hostgator would allow him to use 1/4 of the server? No.

If you need 1TB of space, you'll need lots of Bandwidth too.

If you really want 1TB of space, you'll need a dedicated server.

Unlimited website hosting is just a very sly marketing trick that allows them to get more clients, because a vast majority of there clients will not use lot's space or bandwidth.

This allows them to seemingly "give" this "extra" Disk Space or Bandwidth.

BUT, everything is hidden in their Terms of Service or Fair Usage Policy.

I own a hosting company and we don't hide things away. Hence, no unlimited.. Because unlimited is unstable...

I wouldn't say unlimited is "unstable" but it certainly is a big sign of overselling to any of your future clients.

Anyways, Lemezo, I highly suggest you don't go with Hostgator due to your 1TB HD/Disk Space requirement.

    Is it true?

Hostgator has a reputation to suspend accounts for the smallest or minor infractions.

I don't know if hostgator is perfect for what you need but I'm currently using hostgator with a bunch of domains and I have no complaints. I used the coupon code "GATORACCESS" and got hosting for only 1 cent. That's how I got started with hostgator and have been quite happy with them.

    1TB of data?
What kind of site you hosting?
I don't think they allow you to as they have limit of the number of file allowed at the server.

I can see that lots of people are stating that they have been with Hostgator and that they have been happy with the service..

Try going very close to a few hundred GigaBytes of Data Storage on a so called Unlimited Plan and see what happens.. The truth always comes out.
