    Hello Marketers,

I am looking for a solid marketing plan for promoting a singer in public. Singer have sung many songs and way popular in New York city locally. But need more exposure online. Need a plan before i spend any money. This will involve critical thinking and professional promotions via generous ads. PM your rates and plans..

    Cheers

Perhaps as a starting point you could post some videos of him / her singing on You Tube and try to use that as a platform to promote him /her.

We need more information, age, style, message in the songs, target market etc.

    What's the singer's website?

Yes, social marketing is ideal for this kind of thing. If the singer really has something, it can take off pretty quickly.

There are a lot of videos on social marketing at my theprofessionalmarketer.com site - if you (or anyone) would like a free trial then just PM me and I'll make it happen :)

Are we looking at a singer's career here or what? Getting exposure is just one part of it.

I have worked in the entertainment industry for many years and have seen many fine talented people go down because they didn't get their marketing right.

Before we even get to exposing the artists there are things that have to be done.

Just like with a website - you have a basic plan of how it will work for you and make you money before you start driving traffic.

BTW, if they have a hit song, they wont need to spend anything on promotion.

You don't really need to spend money...

Just start with social networking sites: facebook, myspace, youtube, twitter, and etc. Make them a site. If they're already semi-popular in New York their fame will surely spread.

Oh yeah and don't try to get them signed. Music labels make the most profit and leave the artists with nothing, but of course fame always leads to sponsors, endorsements...

You have to spend a lot of money to have a hit song in the first place.

First things first...Are they good? Do they have personality on stage? Do they have the right look? Is there a market for the type of music they sing? Are they unique?

And what is the overall goal of the campaign? Is it just to get more exposure online? Or is there a long term plan here?

Once you've answered those questions, then you can think about marketing...

Very wrong. Talent is free. PCs are cheap and there are some good inexpensive DAWs on the market.

Can you name a hit song that was acheived by talent alone and recorded using a cheap DAW at home? There won't be many...

Talent is free...DAWs can be cheap...Marketing a hit song? Very expensive! Granted, it's rarely usually the artist who pays, but the record labels will spend a very large amount of money to get a hit song.

Remember the music industry is not just about talent...That can get you a start, but it's the record labels who spend the money to make people with questionable talents stars.

I don't need to name a hit song, no one needs to have an API console to write and record a hit song. I know at least a dozen local bands that have used cheap equipment in their apartments to make great sounding albums.

Marketing a hit song is cheap, very cheap. Marketing a bad song is expensive. A hit song being played over and over on the radio will promote itself.

The music industry is all about talent, there is nothing else.

There are thousands of artists that don't use record labels.

youtube and facebook are your best options and they are both free. you could have the singer sing multiple songs in a basement studio and broadcast it on youtube. with facebook you can drive traffice to the youtube video. very simple.
