I just switched hosts and something must have gotten messed up, but when I created a new post on my WP blog and tried to upload and image, it uploaded to 100% and said "crunching..." but then gave this error: "Unable to create directory /home/users/web/b917/moo.luongonetwork/tutcove//wp-content/uploads/2010/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?"
I've had something similar happen when I moved hosts. First check under settings/media if the path to your uploads folder is correct or just set it to default. Otherwise, I notice the problem gets fixed when I update wordpress. Even if you already have 3.0 you can still go to upgrade and re-auto install 3.0 which just might fix the problem. I never really found out exactly what caused it, especially since my directories were all writable. Also, if you exported your old SQL file and imported it into your new site, check to make sure all the domain urls are correct in the SQL file.
When you move your hosts, The path problem usually arise. Go in Settings -> Misc. Correct your path and then Change Chmod to 777 of WP-Content and all directories & files.
people are saying CHMOD this chmod that so I just CMODED a bunch of stuff not knowing which EXACTLY to CHMOD. I changed the path in Settings - MISC to the correct folder /uploads Now I am getting this error: "Unable to create directory /www/wp-content/uploads/2010/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?"
Lol, don't just CMOD everything. Just follow the directions. No, inside of the uploads folder, you also need to create a folder for the year "2010" and then inside of that, create a folder for the month "7" or "07" and set them all to 777. Your image uploads should work after that.
no need top delete it,just CHMOD to 777 which version of wordpress u using? u don't need to change anything in admin panel
no need to create sub-folders in "uploads" folder. wordpress automatically creates them if its parent directory(uploads) is writable(777) by server
Okay then I dont get why people are telling me to create these folders if they already exist.. Here is what I have right now: Uploads > 2010 > 05 06 07 Every single one is CHMODDED to 0777 (Uploads, 2010, 05, 06, 07) and this is the error i get now:
If all that is true then there is no reason for the error. Is this a multi site set up? If so do you have image uploads enabled? If so then you need to follow this up with your host to troubleshoot the issue.
Multi site set up? And I am pretty positive I have "image uploads enabled" I mean its been working for the past few months prior to the host change.
