Can't remove slug category from WordPress

This category "1" keeps appearing in my blog. It says there is a post for it, but when I search the posts, there is nothing there. It says it has a slug and post. I keep deleting it, but it keeps coming back.

HELP! I need to get rid of this.

I have attached an image of this and also my permalinks setting.

    Thanks! slug.jpg permalinks.jpg

That would be the Uncatergorized category. you can't delete that one. Your best best is to rename it and use it

You removed it, but it's still in the "Trash". Click on "Trash" and remove it permanently first.

Search for 'WP category slug remove' in your Plugins page. Add it and you can get rid of the slugs so your permalinks become exampleblog.com/categoryname/ instead. Great plugin.

I tried doing what you recommended. It just created another Uncategorized category and the "1" is still there.

Go to phpMyAdmin (it's not in wordpress, from cPanel), click 'SQL'. Type this in and click 'Go':

DELETE FROM wp_terms WHERE name = 'Uncategorized'

    Code (markup):
All posts that don't have a category will still be classed as 'Uncategorized' though. No matter if it exists or not.

Don't mean to be dumb, but can't find the Trash to remove it permanently. I also just installed the No Categories plugin, but still showing categories. I guess I have other plugins that may override it. I just have one category and that is all I need. Thanks, Susan

If you "Trash" a page or post, just go to edit posts/page screen (provided you do have posts or pages) and it's right there on the top of the screen - All | Published | Trash

It works most of the time, the only time I had problems was when I had similar sub-category names
