Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), To give the Muslim world a space program of its own, the Vancouver-based Muhammad Institute for Space Science will announce in Doha a space mission that will land a scientific station bearing the name of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on the surface of the moon in 2013.
“A space program is something that is inevitable for all the nations today. It gives countries a voice and also brings in foreign investment.

That is why countries like India invest so much in space programs despite having millions in poverty. However, the Muslim nations are today lagging behind in space programs,” said Dr Al Fakir, Director and CEO of the institute.

Dr Al Fakir’s initiative for the moon station comes as a response to the attacks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). “We had planned to send a telescope into orbit by 2015.

It was then these attacks came and we needed to show the world that what the prophet had really strived for. Hence we started a new-bigger project — Muhammad Moon Station I,” he told The Peninsula.

Through the project, Muhammad Institute aims to honor Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for his role in the birth of rational scientific explanation that led to scientific discoveries during the golden era of Islamic civilization and ultimately to modern science as we know it today.

As a Muslim, I support this mans efforts to bring back the scientific focus of the Islamic community. Education is a must. He is soliciting 1$ from every Muslim to further his efforts of putting the name of Mohammad(PBUH) on the moon. I am inspired by his efforts. Such a cause must be deemed worthy. I am considering starting up a similar effort to build quality schools in Islamic lands. I too will be soliciting 1$ from every Muslim to further my efforts. We need more inspiring people like this in my opinion!

This is such a futile waste of resources. A pointless exercise... Instead of launching a space station, send that money to develop Africa and alleviate poverty there.

It would have been a good thing as long as they didn't involve religion in it, we already have enough of that holy shit over here, we don't need more in space.

I think that this cleric should be the head of the space mission. ;)

Most Muslim countries are extremely poor. Yemen, Syria, Egypt, Afghanistan, Iraq etc'. The general rule for the Muslim world is: oil = not so poor, no oil = miserably poor. This is due to the terrible lack of education. So I recommend to invest this money in educating the world's Muslims.

Very true. If all Muslims would send 1$ to my Paypal account, we could really do something about education in these lands.

Isn't Vancouver in Canada? If a Canadian agency is launching a space station, how can it help bring foreign investment to Muslim countries?

I've read a couple of threads here and boy, how hot is the politics and religion forum! Well I think it has always been that way. Anyways, It's good to hear this kind of news, I'm not Muslim but I support this! I also have to agree with Helvetii, It could have been great if religion wasn't really part of this. Still, if this brings investment in then it will help resolve financial problems for the Muslim community.

How's that space station coming along? LOL

A space station from a religion which still practices flat earth theology -- hilarious.

Will, you seem to be forgetting one thing, gravity, which means the prayers will follow the curvature of the earth and reach their destination. Funny picture, I love your posts, but I think you just did not put quite enough energy into this one, gotta keep you honest;)

On the other hand, barring the person facing exactly perpendicular to the direct line to Mecca the prayers will keep circling the earth until at some point they do reach their destination.

As usual, wrong on both counts.

Part 1: The position of the Kaabah from various parts of the world

Part 2: Verse in the Qur'an saying that the Earth is not flat

[079:030] He made the earth egg-shaped.
[079:031] From it, He produced its own water and pasture.
[079:032] He established the mountains.
[079:033] All this to provide life support for you and your animals.

Better luck next time!

Something tells me that when if I will pop up this thread at the beginning of 2013, there will be no Mohamed space station on the moon.
I must say that I was somewhat surprised to find out that the Muslims plan to call their space station "Mohamed". This indicates a certain amount of self-humor, as nothing is could be more in-outter-space than this Mohamed fairytale and his intoxicated blind uneducated and followers.

Sure... if the Earth was flat. :p

Blahahaha... that's a complete fraud. You fall for the silliest lies. Apparently your Arabic is not very good.

And look who else fell for it. Another non-Arab Muslim, what a surprise -- not.

Likewise, your "theory" will only work if the Earth were a complete circle. It is not, the earth is an ellipse.

An ellipse is a smooth closed curve which is symmetric about its horizontal and vertical axes. The distance between antipodal points on the ellipse, or pairs of points whose midpoint is at the center of the ellipse, is maximum along the major axis or transverse diameter, and a minimum along the perpendicular minor axis or conjugate diameter.

In simple English, this means that an ellipse is symmetrical at its sides, and it also has a midpoint centre across its diameter. For someone who claims that science is superior to religion, you sure are a failure when it comes to geometry!

And your Arabic is? Since when do you speak or read Arabic and why are you suddenly proclaiming yourself as an expert? There are many websites that elucidate this better than I do...I do not need to waste time trying to argue this point with you. Fact remains that the Qur'an never says that the earth was flat, nor do Muslims face space whenever we face the Kaabah in prayer, due to the ellipse nature of the earth.

You fail scientifically on both counts.

Face: as far as the progress of science of humanity is concerned, if all of the world countries where there is a muslim majority will completely disappear, it will make absolutely no difference. The progress will remain roughly the same.

So, why is the muslim world such a huge scientific vaccuum, in your opinion?
