Do Subdomains rank in Search engines?

I was wondering if blogspots or subdomains rank in search engines.

Or should I just keep on buying domains? :D

Anybody know if a blog can be ranked in search engines... if it has enough links.. can it operate like a normal domain?

The usually rank faster for the same terms, as they don't seem to be affected by any age type filters... though you'll never own the domain at blogspot or any other free blog hosting site. They can snatch it at any time.

yes defintely suppose you search for freewebspace

after 10 results subdomains hosted at freewebspace.com will appear which contains no information to freewebspace

search for freewebspace and see in google

Search Engines rank pages by their content relevancy according to the queries. Therefore, subdomains can also rank well under proper optimization.

As in cancel your account. A few of the major blog hosts are known for terminating accounts for the slightest of reasons.

I think the subdomains are ranked. However, as far as snatching of accounts is concerned, it is true that free webspace providers can cancel your account or suspended it for the slightest of the reason. This has been experienced by some people whom I know. I recently read about a blogger, that she wrote in her webpage (hosted by some free webspace provider), about phensydyl (the medicine for cough and cold) and the service provider did not like about this and suspended her account for two weeks.. so you always need to be careful..

yes subdomains can rank and as someone else noted some ppl use them for seo purposes to link to thier main site since search engines treat them as an entirely seperate site, although one needs to be careful about cross-linking too much with them you can run into trouble.
