I just wanted to share some recent successes I've had with domain flipping and share a few ideas. One method I've been having success with involves finding and registering local domain names and then marketing those to local businesses. For example, a domain name like "bestpizzainsanjose.com" may not have much in the way of SEO value, but it's very easy to get it to rank at the top of Google for that search phrase and then you can contact local pizza places in San Jose (especially the ones already paying for PPC ads) and offer them your domain. I've flipped several this way for a few hundred bucks each. The exact process can be found in the ebook in my sig if you want to check it out The other one is to simply always have your ear to the ground for breaking news. After the Tiger Woods scandal broke, I heard a newscaster refer to him as "Cheetah Woods" on CNN. I jumped on my computer and registered cheetahwoods.com. I sold it on Ebay the next day for $1000 There's definitely money to be made with domain flipping if you can think out of the box a bit.
nice job by the way. I've read it somewhere in the net also that current events can be a real source of income so bravo for quick thinking
Definitely. You need to be quick though for that method. The first method I mention is much more wide open and there is plenty of opportunity lying in wait at all times.
Great info I am going to try that asap and let you know exactly how it work if you have any more great tips please share!!!!
Localized domains do sell well! I registered the name of part of the town where I stay for a few weeks during the summer. I used it as a photoplog of our vacations there. About a year later out of the blue I received a call from someone who wanted the domain. He asked what I wanted for it and off the cuff I said $5k as I really liked the name. He asked who to make the check out to and where to send it. There are TONS of ways to make money with domains BUT be prepared to sit on a lot of names as well. It's not always easy to flip for a big profit. Also don't get attached to your domains. A lot of people register names they think are sure fire moneymakers and then list them for sale online and get no response. You've seen the for sale threads "Premium Domain for sale" then it is like begoodcarguybuyer.info or something. If you've had it for a year and you get no interest and it doesn't cover it's renewal cost parked then LET IT DROP! Good thread seowarrior
Can you name some? Btw,Do you think you could sell receivecompensation.com to a lawyer for alot?If you can I would split the money with you. Thanks
Good advice. What sort of prices do your 'pizza' type domains usually go for? I.e. what can local small businesses afford?
It really varies. Keep in mind that you're talking about businesses here, they're not in the domaining or IM business and don't generally know much or care much about SEO. Also a few hundred to a few thousand bucks is not a huge investment for most businesses, especially if they're already paying for PPC ads, so I always target the PPC ads first. It's hard to resist the offer of "bestfloristindenver.com" if you're paying big bucks for that term in adwords clicks everyday.
rather than selling it to them, you can also rent the domain to them for a per month charge, or just sell the leads the site produces.
receivecompensation.com could be worth a few thousand bucks. SEOWARRIOR _ great thread.. SO i DO have a URL which would benefit a local business - can you offer some tips on how i should "craft" the email for a success proposition?
There's a sample email in the Ebook which you can use as a guide. Basically you want to have a simple 1 page site or blog up to show prospective buyers. You should be able to rank on page 1 of Google for the exact match corresponding with your domain within a few days if not sooner. Then you can email prospective buyers, particularly the ones already paying for PPC ads and point them to the Google search showing your domain on page 1. Let them know that you're emailing other florists/dentists/chinese restaurants etc. in Chicago/Denver/Detroit etc. , that your domain is on the market and that you're open to all offers. Ideally you get multiple responses and get a little bidding war going This is all detailed step-by-step in the Action Plan Ebook in my sig.
You don't need to be a guru to make money doing this. The gurus earn a full time living with it. I'm no guru, but I make money doing it
BUT It needs you to stick with current affairs, I know this isnt difficult. but it needs cleverness and quickness.
