What is a realistic time frame for a first page search result?

I'm using normal SEO strategies with articles and backlinks and I'm going for key words that don't appear to be competitive. If I keep up my daily SEO strategy, how long is a realistic time frame that I'd be looking at to reach the first page organically on Google?

I'm thinking 6 months time. Does that sound right?

If your competition is low you can easily achieve the target in less then six months. BUt what is the actual scenario of your site can be known only by you. Also nobody can give you guaranteed time frame To be in top. Can be done surely, Be Positive and work hard for it.

depends on the competition. if the competition is real low, with proper seo and marketing you could get first page within days.

If you do it right, it will be about 3-6 months for average keywords.

The time depends on how much competition you have in your keywords,if it is low then you will achive within days and if it is high, then you will take months to achieve.

Some keywords can take 6 months, others can take a really long time. If you are targeting something that has little competition you can be within grasp of the first page in a month. It just depends on competition levels, your domain name, domain age, etc.

Like everyone else is saying... it depends on the keyword you're going after and the level of competition. If you have a longtail keyword and low competition (in low thousands), then you can rank within a couple months. If you're going for a broad word like fitness, you'll be at this for a long time. However it's still achievable if your site is unique. If the internet masses likes your site, more than likely google will too.

As most people had stated above it depends on the competition and the keywords you're working on. Remember, SEO is an ongoing thing. Once you reach the first page it's a great achievement but then it's all about maintaining that position (if not increasing it more).

There is something better referred to as 'Beginner's Luck'! :)

Many people have observed their newly launched site get top honors in the beginning... only seeing it slip down eventually. :(
