If you don't actually need the online store functionality, you could do this with nextgen gallery plugin. You would need to customize your css extensively however.

To create this with online store functionality you might be able to try eshop, however you would again need extensive customization and I'm not 100% sure it could be done to the exact specifications as that site.

Possibly a php developer could write a plugin for you but you would have to ask someone who knows more about plugin development than me :)

I'd take a Real Estate theme and convert it. You would have to edit the wording and maybe a few other things to make it for cars, but it's definitely doable.

There's more real Estate themes out there than car themes and plug ins.

You can do this by using cusom fields and CSS. It isn't hard, as long as you are familiar with editing a theme. check the wordpress codex if you do not know how to use custom fields. You will need one for the car thumbnail image, and for each spec on the car, such as year, model, etc. Then you place these custom fields in your index or template file, and the rest is all CSS.

This guy has a free theme that can get you started. It will uses custom fields to display the thumbnails. Then you can figure out how to expand it to fit your needs.

Use Custom Fields to achieve this effect. That is the easiest way to accomplish this task.

And the next thing to do is, tweaking the CSS to display the page as required.

I'm not beating a dead horse but what you are about to do sounds like a lot of work compared to my suggestion of just using a Real Estate theme.

If you think about it, Real Estate listings are exactly like car listings:

    Multiple Pictures
    A listing of features
    Description
    Price
Mortgage calculator is the same as a car loan calculator, just change the parameters from 30 year to 4 year.
Google map of location ( which you can use for the dealership location)
Many also come with agent bio, which can be used for salesman bio or dealership bio.

It's your project, you have to do what you feel comfortable with, but there are a lot of Real Estate themes out there that look pretty good. All you have to do is change a few things on them to make it for cars, instead of houses.

i have been doing some reading on wordpress 3.0 and custom post types,
would custom post types not be the way in order to achieve a car dealer site?

I'd be interested in seeing what you find. I know that Themeforest has a lot of real estate themes, you just have to wade through all of the others. But I could totally see cars in them instead of houses.
Actually when I saw your examples, the layout immediately reminded me of a real Estate theme I saw a while back. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they did as well.

Looks like there is some kind of tag system in the post editor that adds the search options. You would probably just need to hack the theme files to change the terminology and the tag system to input other information like "Vehicle model" instead of "property type", "sedan or coup" instead of "bedrooms" . Price range could stay the same. "Location" could stay the same if you are pulling listings from multiple locations.

You could edit the settings of the loan calculator to figure for a 1,2,3 or 4 year loan instead of 15-40.
Other than that just list the photos and the options that match the tag system.

Looks very do-able if you have some knowledge of editing template files.
