Hello, Last year Squidoo started to block any of their lenses which they thought were too spammy. Prior to that Squidoo was an excellent "open" way to create your own webpages/portal. I worked myself to death to create over 50 lenses on subjects like home remedies, self healing, etc. They were portal pages which led to clickbank products which I endorced with feedback that they were effective. About 11 months ago Squidoo blocked 2 of my most profitable lenses. I was very upset to say the least. It seems that seth(owner of Squidoo) was "gotten" to by the big G, and told to "sanitize" Squidoo or else. At that point I gave up on Squidoo being a cool free unobstructed area to create my pages. Last week I received notice that all my lenses had been blocked. WTF? Im talking about lenses with subjects like How to releive Sciatica, Best uses for bee pollen, Swimming as an exercise, .......Im serious here. Squidoo is dead in my book. A great concept when it started and it was a great great way to get your messages out to many folks on the web in an open unobstructed environment....Now , its just another sanitized, site with over 50 rules to follow. ..Seth traded in his jeans for a suit and tie. Sad. So.....Does anyone have a great alternative to Squidoo where one can go and write content without being monitored and imposed upon by big brother? Let me know. Thanks.
Hubpages as mentioned is the biggest alternative, but they are even more strict about content and only allow one backlink per website per page (in other words, you can't link to the same site twice on a page). Associated Content and Gather.com are kind of similar, too.
Aren't there any site like what Squidoo "used " to be like? Im not talking about blackhat stuff here, just very normal everyday home remedy or movie related content which has backlinks to clickbank. Isnt there a site like this which is fairly liberal about what you can add to your site and lets you be creative without restricting /viewing everything you do as spam?
I doubt that you'll find any more of those...the problem with the old Squidoo is that it got abused with iFrames and other tactics that people were using in the text areas. If you give the community too much power, they'll abuse it, and these kinds of sites are all well aware of it these days (especially when Squidoo disappeared from Google and had to clean up their mess)
It looks like you're offering some good content. Personally, what I see as the best alternative is to recreate that content on your own domain. That way, you have full control. Who is to say that other sites similar to Squidoo won't do the same and block your content? If your content is that good you can promote it and attract links to it by promoting the site on social networks.
There's a list of "Squidon'ts" and if your lens is anywhere close to something on the list then it will be flagged automatically.
Exactly. The list keeps growing as well. net/net: TOO RESTRICTIVE. Moral: dont put all your eggs in sombody elses basket. Now I have nothing...all my content was trashed by Squidoo. Took me over a year to create those 50 lenses.))
