Newbies #1 Recipe for Failure - Are You One of Them?

If you want to be successful on the internet, there is only one recipe:

Have a plan and stick to it! Yes it is that simple.

When it comes to internet marketing, most newbies usually don't have a plan. Hence they get distracted easily and usually first in line to procrastinate. Then they will quit...

So How to be a Successful Internet Marketer by Overcoming Distractions and Procrastinations?

Do you know how to distinguish between a successful person from an unsuccessful one? If you don’t, it is easy. You just have to ask them a question about their goals and then listen to them about what they have to say. Usually the successful person would have a plan with a timeline for his or her goals. The unsuccessful person will talk about his or her goals without any solid plans.

The successful person will tell you when he or she will start and when they expect to hit certain milestones until they reach their goals. The unsuccessful person will count on being successful by trying without planning. The unsuccessful person will know how to dream but not how to achieve it systematically.

I wrote this article on my blog today.

Tell me what you think. Am I wrong to say that people who don't have a plan will eventually fail by burning out of fuel (money and energy)...

I think failure happens only when you give up...people who don't have a plan, eventually give up.

I think it depends on your definition of "failure".

Many would consider my first venture a failure, I invested 4 months into a website - and only made 2 sales. But to me, it was a success as I learned what I did wrong, I thought outside the box, and learned from my mistakes.

I agree with you completely cmorley.

I've been frustrated lately because I set these milestones for me to accomplish, started using microsoft outlook this summer to schedule everything I want to do. . . It's been a mixture of community service, SAT prep, counselor meetings for this camp, b-boying, and IM, setting up a website, learning the Ins and Outs of internet marketing, but recently for past couple days, my mouth has been killing me since I had surgery on my wisdom teeth. A small setback, but when you feel like you have things to accomplish everyday, it feels a lot bigger than it is! In the end, I'm just trying to say, if i didn't schedule all of that up there, I wouldn't be able to effectively deal with them all, so yes as I said first, I agree COMPLETELY.

Edit: I realized you were only focused on business, but then again, you find that many lessons in everyday things we deal with like, our jobs, such as internet marketing, can be easily applied universally to life in general.

IN this game, there is no substitute for experience, the more you fail the more you learn. Buying internet marketing courses can help but get expensive very fast and generally only have 1 or 2 super life changing pieces of advise. Try new things, and think outside the box, internet marketing isn't intuitive to most people at all. But if you truely believe in yourself, just never give up, keep on trying new things until you find something that works, it's like panning for gold!

Thanks for the feedback. I completely agree with you. I personally don't take failures as a set back. I harness the experience out of it and I make sure I don't repeat the same mistake I've made again.

I even wrote an article on this on my blog few months ago - 51 Reasons Why You Should Not Be Afraid to Fail or to Make Mistakes

For the purpose of this thread, I used the word "failure" to put emphasis on the word "planning".

Because I failed before, I know that I have to plan and execute my next venture properly so that I can be successful.

I am sure all of you will agree with me on that.

I am wondering how many of you have a plan that you are sticking to? Is it working for you? I would like to do a follow up article on this. Would love your feedback.

Great advice. Seriously though, I pick maybe one or two here and there to promote them here that are relevant to marketing. I hope you find them useful. If you don't, I am sure there are other threads for you to read.

Failure is the gateway to both successful and unsuccessful people. If you accept failure and quit, you are unsuccessful, but if you accept your failure and start again learning from your mistakes, you are a successful person in internet marketing.
