How do you get files onto your website now, FTP or with a file manager in a control panel?

ok open ur FTP client, connect to ur server. Do you see the directories there? Is there any folder like www or public_html (any or both)? If its there, then go to www or public_html directory (if both are there go to anyone), and upload ur sitemap.xml file there.

Huray! u r done. Now go to google and do the rest that google instruct you...:)

That basically means you need to open a software that allows connection to all of your online content. Think of Filezilla or some other FTP program.

Go to Google and type in "filezilla". It will bring you to the open source dload page. Then follow instructions.

To own a website, first u need to have some form of controls on that, like the domain contol panel etc...So, tell me whats in ur case?

I got someone to make the site for me.
Its a site that I can edit my products on.
    I own the domain name.
I pay for hosting but not through the person who made it for me.

Ok do you have the domain registered in your name and have the Control Panel settings? If you dont have the Control Panel settings, you dont completely own that site (I think ! unless you are in some bond or something)...Wel you should also be able to manage the files in your site (server) only then you can do sever related controls... Now first let me know if you have the control over the domain or the hostings, or both..if not then tell me about how not...and try getting the settings. Once you get the setting, you can start the process of uploading the needed files...Ofcors I will guide you here...

Thank you so much for your help, it looks like I need to stay with you as your the first one to ask me different questions and I really think we needed to get back to the start of all this story! Im sending an email to the guy who made my site and ask your question and then get back to you. Please be patient as Im in NZ and the time differance may result in some delays.

Many thanks again for taking your time to help me. Murray:)
