How many links have you gotten to a website the most?

I know my question sounds stupid and nooby, but I've actually been performing SEO on websites for a long time. I actually almost see myself as a professional SEO consult, despite my age.

Some of my affiliate websites are really doing great in the SERP and when it comes to the money. I mean, I'm making a living with the help of my websites.

Anyway. Earlier today, in Google Webmaster Tools, I saw that a website of mine had lots of backlinks. Over 28K to be exact.

I'm aware of the fact that quality comes before quantity, but I can't help asking you this: how many links have you gotten to a website the most? If having many backlinks to your website, where did they come from? I got all mine from blogs and forum posts.

How old is your site and how did you manage to obtain so many links?

The website is about a year old, and I got most of the links from a personal blog of mine. Placed a link in the sidebar and my blog did all the work. It's easy and it works!

Well personally my old blog already have 76702 in total according to seocentro.
It may differ how many links still exists since it was almost over a year now.

BTW, that's not automated, all is submitted manually. ;)
It may really look like spamming but a lot of that submission is quality.

But in my opinion, you shouldn't rush on building links so fast and so many in a day.
For it does really makes google vomit all your efforts.

    Yeah, sure. Go ahead.

How many links do you have in Google Webmaster Tools?

I know, that's why all my link building has been manual and perfect.

NOt as many as 28k (in google anyway). In yahoo site explorer over 50k, but in google about 12,000. As you said, quality before quantity. And results are what really matter in the end.

Oh yes! How did you manage to get 24K links to a website that's only 3 months old? Are you some kind of guru with 1000's of websites?

    My main forum:

Yahoo site explorer shows 193,969 links.

Google webmaster tools shows 27,488 links.

Why is there such a big difference, I dont know.

    My blog:

Yahoo site explorer shows 5,097 links.

Google webmaster tools shows 6,777 links.

Thats a standard deviation rate among these two. Google counts backlinks in a reluctant way.

Oh, wow. You've got huge amounts of links! Amazing.

This dude's right. Yahoo! shows more information about backlinks than Google does.

Thank you. Maybe 5,000 - 8,000 of those links come from my forum signatures - I'am a member of a lot of webmaster forums.

The other 185,000 - 188,000 links come from people linking to my forum from their blogs, and other forums.

I often wonder if google restricts the number of backlinks a site can have based on its age? That might explain why my google webmaster tools only shows 27,488 links, as compared to yahoos 193,969 links.

My main forum has been online for a little over 4 years. It was launched in April of 2006 - closed for 1 month in March 2007 - reopened in April 2007.

Its held a steady page rank of 5 for the past 2 or 3 updates. I think it went from PR 4 to PR 5 in december 2009 or janaury 2010,,, somewhere in there.

I got a blog called Avambo.tk which I am no longer updating due to lack of time.

I recieved about 51-55k yahoo backlinks and alot of other search engine links to it within a month.
It also recieved over 2.5k followers.

It's a blog for funny jokes, stories, facts and stuff.
I remember posting a funny picture once that got about 7k backlinks. xD
I spent about 1 hour total of "marketing" the site. (telling a few people i knew online) and it grew incredibly fast.

Unfortunately, websites with tha content does not get paid well by google... =(

That's great. Thanks for sharing the information.

Wow. That's - honestly - utterly amazing. Have you tried selling the blog?
