Crawling is when a bot is coming to your website.
Indexing is when the bot read the content of it.
Caching is when the bot saves the content of your website.

    Analogy :

A spider visits your kitchen. [Googlebot crawls your website]
The spider keeps your kitchen location as one of its favourite place [Googlebot indexes your website, that is, put it in its database]
The spider also thinks that your kitchen is a really good place so it keeps the view in memory [GoogleBot caches your website, that is, keeps an inmemory snapshot of what your website looks like]

Crawling is where search engines spiders / bots move from web page to web page by following the links on the pages. The pages "found" are then ranked using an algorithm and indexed into the search engine database.

Indexing is where search engine has crawled the web and ranks the URLs found using various criteria and places them in the database, or index.

Caching is where copies of web pages stored locally on an Internet user's hard drive or within a search engine's database.

Approved. Great answer! Now SEO noobs knows when to use such term...Crawling is from the word itself. Indexed pages are for pages listed in SERPS. Cached pages is a screen shot of a page.

Good answer... though I feel indexing is more of acknowledging the presence of your content/site on the internet... rather than just reading it! :)

    Hi...
Crawling is basically when the search engine spider visits a page
Indexing is when the spider records the page (or if we're talking about backlinks the link) and starts displaying the page in search or counting the link for SERP movement.
Caching is basically a term used for the saving of a page's data (the last time it was indexed so possibly out of date) by a search engine.

Crawling - Google sends its spiders to your website.
Indexing - Google visited your website and has added you to its database.
Caching - Google took a snapshot of your website when it last visited and stored the data in case your website went down or if there are some any other issues.
