Hello, I signed up with OpenX community hosting and got everything set up as far as server goes and now that I log into my control panel I have no cluse on what to do. I'm lost! LOL. I've set up my website but have yet to set any zones/campaigns. Here are a couple questions:

    1. How exactly do I get advertiser's on my site?
    2. Do they have an automated code in which I can just enter the code and let OpenX select advertiser's?
    3. Do I have to advertise my site myself and wait for intersted sites/companies to make offers?
    4. Can I use my current companies i.e Xtend Media, Adbrite, Infolinks, Clicksor, etc with OpenX?

I'm just confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

openx is a platform to manage your own ads. not a normal ads network.

Create your own advertisement for your advertisers, point them to the OpenX installation and have them signup as advertisers
Open-X is setup around 'zones'. You can have multiple ads in a zone, all called with one code, you can even run one zone across multiple websites, so yes, all you have to do is cut and paste the OpenX code
That's what 'self served advertising' is all about. You don't have to do things this way though, OpenX allows you to do this, there's a difference
You can, in fact do so. You can also opt in to the Open-X market, which may or may not do better than your above sites. I found it so much better myself. You don't WANT to use Open-X with infolinks, however, that's not how the system works. Infolinks is designed to be placed in the website itself, not in a banner.

OpenX does now contain a 'normal ads network', and has for a few months now. Not 100% sure about performance and payout, as I just started using the network last night, but it doesn't appear to be horrible as far as throwing ads out there.

Let me know how that goes because they just sent me the contract a few days ago and all I have to do is sign it and send it back to them to get started. They only serve eCPM banners which is fine with me but I just didnt want to go through this contract signing if the rates were low so whenever you get a couple days going, if you could post some results it would be appreciated.

and thanks for all that info. you supplied. Its appreciated.

This is one of the biggest problems I find with OpenX. It great that its open source but I feel that because of this, to many features have been included and it starts to become difficult to learn. When a company tries to satisfy to many types of users, they end up pleasing nobody.

What I did to learn it was create a few fake profiles and just create mock ads and practice learning all the features. I hate to say this but, give yourself a few hours and you should understand the most important stuff.
