Two questions: (1) Is it better to have more keywords or less keywords in a campaign? (2) If I'm using a keyword phrase, like "financial news", should it be done in "", or (), or as just two words ... as in the following: "financial news" (financial news) financial news or as separate words: financial news Thanks!!!
1) Vilhiem, It's not about more or less. It's about what gets you results. You will have to first of all decide what you want to achieve with your campaign. Each keyword has a different effect. You have to choose keywords which are relevant to your goal and your niche. (2) Phrase match: "keyword" Exact match: [keyword] Square brackets not () as you put it.
It's not about more or less. It's about the right keywords, targeted keywords. If that means only a few keywords, it's only a few keywords. If there's a hundred different ways to say the same thing, you'll have a hundred keywords and there's nothing wrong with that. Keyword is a bit of a misnomer. It should be keyphrase. Never have individual words as keywords such as you have. The word "news" by itself can mean a lot. It's not specific to your product, "financial news" and even that may be too broad.
If you add more keywords which are irrelevant to your Ad then what is the use? Try to get phrase matched more relevant keywords to get some ROI
sorry for being blunt but if you're asking this question you should probably wait to launch your campaigns until you've read up enough on Adwords, or hire someone to handle your paid search marketing for you.
When starting out, focus on only a few keywords and you’ll get more links per each keyword. This concept of “link equity†should lead to better rankings.
Excuse me PayPerClick ... but as it is apparent in the variety of answers here ... it is NOT a determined conclusion that more or less keywords is preferred. Obviously, "quality" is of utmost importance ... but then again ... THAT was not my question. In fact, SEOArbiter (above) has answered more in line with my question. Makes sense ... "focus on only a few keywords and you’ll get more links per each keyword. This concept of “link equity†should lead to better rankings. "
i was kind of wondering the same thing as op. if you have a 3 word keyword, and it exactly matches the domain, and its the ONLY keywords you are using, does that show as a positive? like this is specific site for specific traffic
...more keywords would be reasonable but you have to understand that each keyword has its effect. However, use '' '' instead of a bracket.
PPC is not about using a keyword that matches your domain. It's about the words that people will use to find what you are selling. People don't search for domains. It may match but that's not your goal. If I sell Dell Inspiron Mini laptops, that's one possible keyword. Some use the word computer instead of laptop. Others will not use Dell. So you see, there can be dozens of keywords for this product. Nothing wrong in using all of them, they all are relevant and refer to the same thing. If you sell a book on the other hand, a book usually has one title. This means you won't have as many keywords and keyword variations. You'll naturally have less keywords. Nothing wrong with that either. As long as the keyword is relevant and precisely targets the product.
but what if i am after ONE EXACT phrase like "south california sports news" and im after that exact search only. i have the exact domain to match and i use just those keywords in order. strong or weak?
I don't understand what you mean by strong or weak. A keyword is a keyword. If it relates, it's a good one. Without thinking much or knowing exactly what you do, you have more than just one keyword: so california sports news socal sports news sports news in south california sports news in socal Those are generic keywords. What about: socal baseball news south california basketball news south california high school sports
It depends how good you can find converting keywords. It also depends on the quality score you get for the keywords. Sometimes having less keywords can be a good thing in terms of cpc
I have added lots of keywords but only the main ones get results - focus on good keywords rather than masses of no good ones.
