Hi all, I have gone throught the process of article writing, back links, etc and have not seen much traffic increase even though I am on first page of Google for and 1st place (UK) out of 1,990,000 results, for the keyword "make friends online" My friendship / dating site www.friendsormates.com started with PPC which I have maintained for 14 months. Anything else I can do here? I have exhausted my limited skills on this to date.
I don't think there is much traffic for make friends online. You should target hundreds of other keywords if you want some serious traffic. Build lots of satellites, doorways, spam on social bookmarking sites, etc. PPC is an option too, but might be quite expensive.
Before you ever optimize for serps you need to know the REAL search volume. Would you ever go interview for a job and not know the pay?
I think you should try social networking, just make pages and groups there relevant and you will surprise to get huge traffic
I think you should offer new services on your website to make it more enjoyable for users. Also you can optimize your website for some other keywords too to have more traffic.
For keyword "make friends online", there's only 9900 searches in the UK per month. So you will only get approximately 330 clicks per day for that keyword. Similar keywords are "meet friends" or "single online". Which have 22,200 and 12,100 searches per month in UK. You can use this Free Google Keyword Tool to get keyword traffic estimate and suggestions: https://adwords.google.ca/select/KeywordToolExternal
Plus, as well as needing to know what the search volume is for a keyword - don't assume you'll get all the available clicks Even at position 1 don't assume you'll get much more than about 35% of available clicks http://chitika.com/research/2010/the-value-of-google-result-positioning/
Ranking #1 for a phrase that no one searches for is worthless. Also just because there are 1,990,000 results showing when you search for make friends online doesn't mean that that many pages are actually competing for that phrase. Only that there are that many pages in Google's index with "make", "friends", "online", "make friends", "friends online", etc. somewhere on the page that Google feels might be relevant to the search. As Zexy implied, you have probably simply been targeting the wrong keyword phrase.
do you have a stat counter installed that tells you what people search for when they land on your site? Where are they coming from? You should do an analysis of what keywords people actually input to get to you.
You really need to do a lot of research before jumping in to SEO. As has been mentioned, you jumped into a keyword that just doesn't get enough traffic. Is that the only keyword you have used to send traffic to your site? You should open up your rang of keywords and look for more that will drive traffic. Someone also mentioned social website marketing. That could also work for this type of site.
Or you can focus on ranking a lot of long tail keywords with small traffic, they are easier and cost effective. Combined, they will bring you a decent amount of traffic
Good idea... I do believe that social network sites are great places to create groups or profiles in order to bring in more traffic to your site. After all, they have a similar niche. A lot of people make that precise mistake. They optimize for the wrong keyword or keyphrases and then end up stuck without much traffic. I think you will need to reanalyze your strategy and even change your words. EXACTLY, I totally agree with magda... Being #1 overall in SERPS will NOT guarantee the monopoly of the traffic. THEREFORE, a good advertising campaign IN addition to your SEO is essential. I think you need to invest in a good email marketing campaign. Make sure that your email marketing campaign is targeted and niche oriented in order to get the best results.
Dude, i dont mean to be frank here, but that is just one keyword. It is very rare that you are going to get one keyword that brings in a ton of traffic, real traffic is earned from the main keyword plus a ton of targeted long tail phrases. Ranking #1 for one keyword, yeah, its great, but you are going to notice a real increase in traffic if you hit the long tail variations, and other similar variations at the same time. Hope that helps!
the good way to promote this is by social networking sites, send invites and there you go,or you might want to get more backlinks or even get prospects by joining or having an affiliates program.
First of all your website was not listed in first place , it was is the third position . so your expected result may show the wrong output. so first calculate the traffic range for the third position.
Firstly make a strategy to concentrate on prominent keywords according to search volume.... Take help of google adword tool and trends.
Well thank you everyone for your frank answers. when i started this it`s true i did`nt really do the research for traffic, all this was added knowledge as I went along....I can`t let go of it as i have done so much work. Your suggestions above will be very helpful. If I can add a few of these tips without much more spend i will be happy. The site pulls in about £25 profit a day now..it`s not great. Definitely look at your comments
25 pounds per day is still ok if it's just a hobby site, its much better than mine thats for sure. I think luck and patience is the key with new sites. Keep plugging away and tweaking it and eventually a critical mass will build up
