Apart from DMOZ, Yahoo, and Looksmart, submitting site to which directories will be more helpful? Which are the high traffic directories

There have been numerous directories list postings on these forums along with responses regarding which is better/worse, etc.

A recent one by Disgust may be a good place to start. You may also try searching (see search option on menu at top of forum) for "directories list" without the quotes. :D

The amount of traffic from directories is minor compared to search engines, but directories are normally good backlinks. This being the case, submit to every FREE directory you can find.

Don't submit to just any directory that will accept a listing. Look at the actual links to the sites listed. If they are not true anchor text links, there is absolutely no reason to waste your time listing your site when the link will not be of any value (unless of course the directory serves your target market and potential customers may actually use the directory). Also, look at the pr in the toolbar. If it's grey, chances are the SE's cant see it anyway. It's probably part of the "invisible internet". Look at the url in the category you're listing in. If the url is not a plain text address, then chances are the SE's will never find it. Again, the "invisible internet".

Submit to every directory you can if they have true text links, are indexed by the SE's and you can see a cached result for the diretory page you want to list on. Be selective and proactive in choosing where to submit your site.

Try joeant.com (you can submit for free if you are an editor) and Wowdirectory (free), which gives you more than one listing per category.

I found the following URL helpful

    http://www.freelinks.com/

the list compiled in the other thread (that was linked to above) would help a lot.

I'd say that direct traffic, even from the big guys like yahoo and dmoz, is really, really minimal compared to the backlink boost you'll get.

submit to all of those, even if you only get in about half of them, that's 10 free links from solid PR pages for about 20 minutes of your time.

Geeez you are a LOT faster than me. I try to rotate title, desc., choose exact page etc. but even without that there is no way I could hit 2 min per link.

On that topic, has anyone tried to outsource their "free directory" link building to someone in Romania/India etc.? Good experience? Bad Experience?

I have do it for my 30 second tier sites soon but I just don't have that kind of time. I don't mind training someone, passing them my list, paying them $5/h etc..as long as they actually do the work to a decent enough level.

(BTW, I wouldn't ask them to do it for my 1st tier or client sites.)

    Best,
    Colin

yes, but those directories are fairly shoddy. their terms of inclusion are confusing at best and they seem to have no focus on relevancy or quality.

How does dhundo.com relate to megri.com?

I submitted to dhundo.com and it asked me to e-mail megri.com with the location of my reciprocal link.

like I said, those are shody directories that are really confusing.

also when you submit that is a monthly fee not a one time listing fee. and their customer support is horrible.

after I submitted my blog they sent one of their workers to spam my blog with irrelevant posts linking into a half dozen of their sites.

in the long run it is much easier to provide good customer service than to cut corners, but some people seem like they do not understand that concept.

Bluefind dot com has to be one of the best directory to gain PR through, however there will not be much traffic generated. The directory is growing all the time (PR8 homepage) -I managed to get PR7 theme link for one of my sites for one time payment of $40. Cant get better value for money than that!

Look for Westhaven here at DP as he is an Indian who does directory submissions for a good price. There are a few others who do too if you have a quick search in the directory forum.

What happened to bluefind's Page Rank? It looks like google made them a PR0 across the board?

I heard they got hammered by Google for getting too many links too fast. How many is too many? Good question.

I'll bet it wasn't getting links too fast, but rather a crack down by google on directories that are in the business of selling high pr listings. According to reports on the recent google conference (and comments by GoogleGuy) google is going to be removing a lot of dmoz clones - and I wouldn't be surprised to see this extend to directories that are really in the business of selling PR. It's probably a fine line between a directory that has edited listings and ones that accept any who pays their fee.

A very fine line. In the one case, you are selling a link, that may have PR attached, and in the other, you are selling PR with a link attached. How do you decide which is which?
