don't expose your high pr site too much.

http://www.juglawest.org got penalty. I see all sub directories are pr0. they used to be pr6.

Just be careful. If you start to make hundreds of $$ because of link sales, you should known, that if google finds out you will get a penalty.

keep it safe, keep it cool.

Its a dropped domain on which a bidding directory was made. Its due for further penalty some or the other day..

Its nothing to do with exposing high pr, its been setup to scam people right from the start, a bit rich for a scammer to be handing out warnings to real directory owners.

Just be careful. If you start to make hundreds of $$ because of link sales, you should known, that if google finds out you will get a penalty.

Google dont penalize on the amount of money that someone makes, they penalize when obvious attempts are made to sell pr, buying up a high pr domain, with some odd sounding non related name installing a bidding directory script or standard directory script on it then advertising it as PR5, PR6 etc etc is what gets a directory penalized.

You said keep it cool, keep it safe.

Id say keep it real, more like.

Ive had these types of discussions before where when exposed they try and point the finger at the very person (myself) to take attention off themselves.

The normal directory owners wont be looking at PR of that type, PR9? Thats just being silly now.

if google finds out <-- basically means you're doing something wrong, you should never need to worry about "google finding out"

    Verdict: Guilty conscience

I totally agree with Pipes and I said so when the directory was announced here on DP, I did a test so we will see what the results are after the impending update.

I can see the homepage going the same way but we shall see.

    Thanks Brian

What is Google doing and on what basis Google penalize a site relating to PR, nobody know here. Does Google sent you an email regarding penalized of your site or had Google told you that because of exposing your higher PR, Google had penalized you? I think they didn't. So,these are totally confidential matter of Google.

Have you heard about linking to bad neighbourhood? This is the most common reason for penalties. You should simply not link to any site.

Without links Google wouldn’t work. It is more about linking to quality websites.

    Thanks Brian

    Think!

If that was true, I 'd come here and "sell" links from all my competitor sites ;)

So, sorry, G has better things to do that scanning forums for "selling" links.

That's the bad side of selling links. So just be careful if you are doing this. G is smart.

It's impossible for a "young" website (can be a web directory or not) to archive high PR (more then 3-4) let's say "playing by the rule". (see aviva's example). I mean, yeah, you can buy thousands of links and have PR7, then you have some income for that. But that doesn't make you "good". It's like in real life: a nice haircut and an Armani dress doesn't make you a movie star.

Your advice goes only for low quality directories.

Can top directories like Yahoo Dir, DMOZ, BOTW, EZILON and JOEANT take this advise too?

It's not the first time we have seen a bidding directory with fake IP losing it's PR. The only thing that bothers me is that Google acts too slowly in many cases and these fake PR bidding directories still managed to scam some people.

@Nemis: Google doesn't like any type of link sales so you should have seen that coming.
