Google webmaster tools, problem

I have Google Webmaster Tools setup for a couple of my sites. Today I set it up for a new site, and verified it with their meta tag. When I go to the site config section, and settings, I try to set the preferred domain and when I click save, it reverts back to default and tells me I have to verify my site before I can make this change.

Well, it says I'm verified, so I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas? Thanks!

are you sure its the correct code? try to double check it, it should work when the code is up.

yeah, the meta tag is the same one that the webmaster tools asked me to insert into my header. I then clicked verify and it worked. At one point I then removed the meta tag, and could not remember if it needed to always be in the header or could be removed after verification. So I then put it back in, and it still says it is verified.

Maybe you haven't place the code on the right position that's why they can verified the code.

Yes, the meta tag is inside the header tags. Feel free to view the source:

    hello,
I have Google Webmaster Tools set of connections for a pair of my sites. Today I set it up for a new site, and verified it with their Meta tag. When I go to the site config section, and settings, I attempt to set the prefer province and when I click save, it reverts back to evasion and tells me I have to corroborate my site before I can make this revolutionize.

    thanks

Hey, I had the same problem, after a few google forum posts I figured out that in order to set the preffered domain you have to verify both non-www and www domains, so if you added www.domain to your sites list, you just have to add domain one (without www.) as well...

    It worked for me...

Ah ha!! Thanks for the tip, that solved my problem. I actually have one other domain on there that I've already set the domain preference, but I only have the non www added, so I must have deleted the www domain earlier. I wonder if I need to re-add that again, or if the preference will remain set for me other domain. Thanks again!

How long does it take for webmaster tools to start showing data on your domain? I've had my new domain verified on webmaster tools for almost 2 days now, and still shows nothing. As well, it has not been crawled by google. Checking my source shows I have everything setup correctly.

It takes Google between one and two weeks to update the data in your account... And if you removed a domain from your webmaster tools there will be no harm with adding it again, but if you already specified your preferred domain and Google accepted it, then it won't be necessary...

Thanks that's nice to know about setting the preferred domain. I noticed a lot of my pages have been crawled by google, but for some reason the home page is not displayed unless you click link to view more pages on the site, then it showes the home page with the title and description I wrote. It's odd how google indexes sites. I've had other sites show up just fine, and some get indexed strangely and in an order I wouldn't expect. I mean, seems like the home page should pop up first when I type in the exact domain.
