What does Google recognize as a QUALITY back link? A site that's not "too spammy"--that I get. But how do you find quality sites? What should you be looking for exactly? Does anybody have tips for this?

Sites relevant to your site that have backlinks from other sites. However, I do not know where all of this "begins".

I guess, the 2 pages (the page where the link from, and the page the links goes for) must have common words.
If the two sites have more common pages (sharing common words) this will be better

Sites do not need to be relevant. It's simple a site with a higher PR ranking = higher quality. If they link back to you on the high PR site it counts as more link juice.

They do need to be relevant, if it is indeed the case that Google's algorithm categorizes websites.

If your tyring to get page rank up then links dont matter as long they are ranked links. But if your looking to rank higher in a search engine then yes your going to need to make sure they are targeted. Hell i have seen domains relevent to a search term rank higher then me yet i have 50 more backlinks an a higher page rank.

i agree with furca and also think they need to have some relevance to google recognize quality!! but on the other hand even backlinks without quality can help ;-)

I agree with furca and maconheiromor. Quality backlinks come from sites with high PR that are related to the site they are linking to. This means that both link source and destination pages should to be relevant to each other. Besides, anchor text should also be relevant and related to the topic of both the source and destination pages.

I guess a quality link has to be the one which originates from a relevant but quality page with very less outbound links on it! :)

Quality backlinks doesn't mean links coming from websites with high PR. That's basic guys.

Google recognizes quality websites that follows Google's webmaster guidelines, NO SEO blackhat methods and having good quality content even with just a PR of 1. Links coming from these types of websites are considered quality backlinks.

A pr8 site linking back to you is a PR8 site linking back to you, whether its relevant or not.

They have to be relevant. Relevancy of the site is one of the most significant values in determining quality backlinks.

    Hi,

The quality of backlink would relate to many factors like niche relative or not, quantity of outbound links, PR of linking page, PR of linking domain, dofollow or not and anchor texts.

    Have a nice day,

A quality back link means, link from a quality site. and a quality site is one which is having a good PR, have good back links from other sites, having good content on it and have not performed any spamming activity overall on site.

Relevant backlinks from dofollow pages are the best kind of backlinks and can help you to improve your ranking on search engines.

Not true. Google tends to show backlinks coming from spammy websites. This function hasn't been mastered yet by Google.

They formulate a special algorithm which takes care of who fast you website is linked with other websites and whether this is true back links for not. This is done in every search technique they use. So it is much difficult to crack google's algorithm. But some people do that too.
