    Hello,
My suggestion might sound greedy but I would like to name it :
What you're thinking about giving infractions for bad english?

ps : even if I'll get some infractions because of errors in writing I would definitely be happy to know that I need to correct myself

That sounds a bit too harsh. Infractions here are already harsh in my opinion, and I don't believe it should be taken up another level.

I fear if we did that it would be a very lonely place.

Well maybe if a user continuously uses bad Grammar, they should get an infraction for it?

It does get very annoying when we're struggling to read what somebody else has posted.

    Ridiculous suggestion.

Or rather you could put them on your Ignore list?

Half the forum? Then I guess we shouldn't give infractions that would ban half the members after all.

Would be easier to just ban non-English speaking countries (which is something I occasionally want to do). The spam to non-spam ratio for non-English speaking countries is huge compared to English speaking countries. If you just blanket banned India, Pakistan & Indonesian there certainly would be far less spam to deal with. :)

It's a hugely different ratio too. For every 100 users that sign up from India, I would guess 50-60 of them are spamming. For every 100 users that sign up from the US, it's 1-2. Spamming must be a national past time in India. :)

    Yes Shawn, I partially agree.
Not all non-en countries should be banned but certainly a few with bad history @ DP

Another idea would be to make an english test/quiz when user signs up and his country is not English speaking
    Something like 40/50 questions.

*Even a spell-checker would work for the begining -> too many errors attracts another english test lol

I wonder how many of those 50-60 accounts belong to the same person/bot?

Banning members from countries like India & Pakistan, will cost DP too much. Many well known members are from India and Pakistan. If I just start naming then the list would be too big. The 50-60 spammers which DP gets per hundred would be the same guy and you can check it from IP and can ban the IP range.

It’s a non starter; I have had some great deals on DP from members that found English difficult.

If you don’t like how a member types you can ignore as many as you wish.

    Thanks Brian

To ban/infract an user just because his language is bad isn't a wise decision.
One could correct the person if he thinks the other has made a mistake, it would be better way of teaching others up.
May be some sort of plugin could be created, if an user has made mistakes with his english r minor ones, he could be notified and given a note of the exact way the info has to be put up.

Regarding spam, I guess the more spam you get from India is because usually they don't care about rules when they sign up.
I would suggest a notice to be put up to all recently registered users <!5 posts, to give clear cut information on what the consequences of his/her post would be. Just a few threatening notes such as spammer and his ip would be reported legally could make a huge difference (based on my forum admin exp.). There are more no.of bots from India as well, a simple reason is, these notorious ones want to try out their "experiments".

Spamming isn't a national past time in India, b'coz more than half the population don't have computer till date, reasons for the same are quite different and the major reason are the affordability, second comes the parents fear towards their children being mis-led via computers.
You could escape scam from China because most of the chinese population aren't good with basic english. On our forum we had chinese prob, we had to literally ban a range of chinese ip's to overcome the problem.
It actually hurts when some one criticizes India, but the facts are true and aren't false by any means

just to OP, if you want a perfect english forum, its better to start a English forum rather than a business forum :p Not every one is a scholar especially from the non-english speaking nations.

The language should be a necessity for article and any language specific posts, the rest shouldn't be of any concern as far as I am concerned

Frankly I think that infractions for truly terrible, incomprehensible English wouldn't be so bad.

I know it will never happen, but if I'm honest I'm sick of trying to decipher what a lot of light green names are trying to say.

Many top folks out here have poor, or at the best, acceptable English.

As Alexis said, it would probably not be a bad idea, but if I were to put myself in the shoes of somebody with poor English trying to make a living off IM, I'd be furious at the very thought of it.
