Best article directories?

Hi there, I've done a lot with link building and SEO but have never actually looked into Article Directories..

And since I'm sick and tired of the mass waves of directories being produced, I don't want to waste my time submitting to all the band-waggoner's directories.. And all I'm seeing is long lists of articles people are giving.. I even saw someone make a post saying "This is the best 50"?!?!?!?!? WHY?!

So what I'm asking is, what are the best article directories I should be submitting to? My articles are of a fair quality, not re-hashes or thrown together, they are totally personally written, from experience, unique articles..
What I'm looking for ideally are like the top 5-10 directories in peoples opinions.. And maybe some warnings about some? Anything helpful

And please, nobody plug their new 'omg da bst direkt0ry ever' - just tell me the real ones I should target..

That 5 has much seo weight. But, if you are doing article submission, do it manually and do not copy/paste one article. It has more value to take a time and rewrite your articles to be unique than to just submit to hundreds of article sites...

 

Also rewrite them and post them to a section on your own site.

 

Okay, so you're saying to rewrite my articles specifically for each article directory, I understand that part - but Promoman I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at? The articles are already on my website..
