Why are the rankings of my innerpages bad except for when using allinanchor: ?

I have a website that's about half a year old that is trying to rank for some easy long tail keywords. My homepage has one of these keywords and ranks in the top 10. However my inner-pages rank only around #90 in Google for their long tail keywords. When I look these keywords up in Google using allinanchor: they show up in the top 10. I have promoted my website using network sites and article submissions services. Plenty of these links are also indexed.

Also I mostly used the same anchor text with the exception of adding an extra word to it here and there. Even though the pages get more backlinks they do not improve in rankings. I wonder if I'm penalized but I haven't been doing anything too blackhat.

I hope someone can tell me what's going on,

    Thanks in advance

You might have done some greyhat SEO - methods which are in between whitehat and blackhat. Doing greyhat SEO is really risky as those methods don't always ensure that they will be accepted as whitehat and eventually falls as blackhat methods. Try setting up a google webmaster tools account for your website and check if you're website has been penalised by Google and then rectify it should there be any.

Thank you for your reply. Where in webmaster tools can I see whether my website has been penalized? My inner pages have never been ranking for my keywords before so I'm not sure if I'm penalized. But it's still really weird my innerpages only rank for the keyword in allinanchor:.

If you already have a webmaster tools account and have already verified it. You can try and check it on Diagnostics, it's Google site diagnostics on your website. You'll find information there if Google has noticed something on your website that they think you should try and rectify.

In that case, it doesn't seem that Google noticed something on my website. I'm still not sure what's causing this to happen...
