Niche Websites - Blogs vs HTML?

    Hey everyone. I am getting into the scene of creating some nieche websites, I already have www.makeabong.net - this is a static HTML site.

    I recently came upon an interesting article about the benefits of building your niche sites through blogs:

    My question is, has anyone tried a technique similar to this? Did it work? Are blogs really the way to go? I'm just looking for some comments, ideas and any input you may have on the subject. Is there actually any benefit in a static HTML as opposed to a blog?

    Would love to hear some opinions.

    Static HTML is okay if you are going to have few pages and not planning to update frequently. More pages and frequent updates will be easier done by blogs.

    BTW your ad blending is way too good! People try to make link units look like site navigation, you did other the other way with great effect.. hehe..

    I had one of my sites as a blog but changed it to a html site.

    Personal Preference - Blog. I update sites often and it is impossible to update static HTML often.

    I didnt like the way the site was laid out when it was a blog. a blog should really just be a personal dairy thing.

    I've been doing a lot with blog software such as Wordpress. There are excellent templates you can use and some mods that let you have a static home page. Many templates are designed for top bar home navigation that list your "pages".

    If you learn some basic CSS, you can customize your templates. For me this is a great way to go.

    Blogs because it's so easy to edit the templates. If you change
    something in static HTML you have to go through everything.

    Also RSS, pinging, and a whole lot of other marketing avenues
    make it so much better. You can also make a blog look like a static
    html page. Most blogs just look like another "blog" because they
    never designed or changed the template.

    I used to love static HTML but eventually gave it up for blogs.

    IMHO, CMS software (i.e. blogging software) is the way to go.

    Check out http://cmsmatrix.org/

    Personally, I recommend Word Press and/or Drupal.
