Android was a test of Googles ability with OS, Chrome OS will be a 2nd line test for netbooks etc, and you'll see the last move will be a full OS to compete with MSFT - it's coming.
We already know how the Google OS will be .. um .. can we all say .. Ubuntu? Linux is Linux at it's core, and no one, yes, not even Google, will ever change that.
Interesting reply from Microsoft. Seems that they took an opportunity to make a dig at the Big G and Mac too
I don't they'll promo ubuntu...it's going to be Android (as it is growing now) -> Chrome OS taking over netbooks (whats left of them? haha) -> Google OS to fight directly with Windows (it's coming)... we'll likely see a full set of software like office too (not just google docs)
We already know it's ChromeOS, period. You, too, can download a developer's version of it. This is old news I talked about last year and, typically, most people here told me there was no such thing, I was wrong, and it would never happen.
I wouldn't blame them considering the fact that they're working on releasing their own Operating System.
First: this was a major rumor which was all started because a single Google employee "hinted" that this was happening. Second: Google is about to release their own Operating System, so why would they use a competitors operating system. I'm sure Apple doesn't use too many Windows, except for the development teams who are developing software for Windows. Google won't completely remove Windows computers, they still need to test their Chrome browser on Windows.
I believe this is just a marketing strategy to downgrade Microsoft's image all around the world. Moreover, if you read the entire news article, it is said there that: "Later this year Google will begin directing employees toward Chrome OS systems". They say that an Internet-based system is far more secured than a standard one, a thing which is rather false if you ask me.
With a browser/Internet based system, monitoring and updating is done at one central location by a large company that knows what they're doing and not by those whodon't understand such things.
It's not bad OS. Windows is the best OS ever. Of course you and other 1% of all computer users as linux fanboys may not like it.
I'm a BSD user, not LInux though I do have one Linux box. Windows is far from the best OS and anyone who thinks that doesn't know how *nix/BSDs work. The pretty Windows you see on Win is NOT the OS.
It's the duty of every public company to grow. If you don't, the stock market and every investment institution will beat you down.
Prettyness isn't the main thing. Although I must agree I've never seen a nice screenshot of linux. And yes I've used Linux for quite some time. Not saying it doesn't have its uses...
It isn't anything. Windows is the only OS that has its windowing system built in to the OS. The windowing system has nothing to do with the OS otherwise. Running most of the non-desktop world would be one, eh? Like the internet? Personally, I haven't used Windows in 5 years and run a 28-person company without it.
