I'm using Photoshop 7 if that helps.

Is there a simple way to create a smooth diagonal line? (45 degrees)

Hold the shift key while drawing a line if I'm right it keeps the lines straight that way ;)

I'm a PS noob but I knew that :) I was hoping there was an easy way to do that but make it diagonal at the same time. I think I have figured it out. Do a straight line with the shift key and then rotate the canvas 45 degrees.

    Hmm I don't get it?
You could just hold shift while drawing a diagonal line and because you hold the shift key it's a smooth line.
You can do this with the pentool or the polygonal lasso tool

Funny you mention that. I always thought you could do it that way, but for some reason it wasn't working for me today, I would try and make a diagonal line while holding down the shift key but it would always revert to a straight line.

Holding shift should allow you to create straight lines horizontally, vertically and diagonally. If, for some reason PS7 doesn't do diagonally, then create a straight line, and on that layer (not rotating the canvas) press Ctrl+T which initiates the Free Transform edit. Up at the top, you'll see a new bar appear with transform options, and there should be a rotate angle option with a box to let you type in the degree. Simply type 45 in there and vwala.

Note: I haven't used PS7 in years, and i'm not on a computer with PS on it at the moment, so may be a little off.

I haven't used PS7 in quite some time, but the problem is not really a problem. Every suggestion in this thread will work.

Hi , as many have answered i would also support the holding of shift key while drawing a line as it smooths it. otherwise you can just draw normal line diagonaly.
    Regards :)

Draw a straight line. Then hold CTRL+T. Then hold Shift, and turn the box to the angle. There you go. =]

To make a straight diagonal line you first need to select the brush tool on the left hand side.

Once selected, left click once on where you want the diagonal line to start. (**at this stage you should just have something like a dot on screen where you have just clicked**)

Now move your curse to where you want the diagonal line to finish and then hold shift and left click again, you will now have your diagonal line.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards
    Andy
