Does anybody know of any good posts here on DP or articles that explain in detail how somebody got to the first page of Google for a competitive keyword? http://www.rankfirstingoogle.com/ has a few success stories. Suggestion: go to google NOW, enter your query, look at the sites in the top 5 and study them. REALLY study them. Do that, then you have your answers. And they will be VERY current .

Not to be contrary, but while numerous backlinks can get you to the first page of Google, targeted keywords have the same results, I've personally used and found this method to be very effective.
Well, I could not see my website on 1st page of Google. But I am getting a lot of traffic by placing my free classified ads on 1st page of Google. Yes! I am getting my free classified ads on first page of Google having a very very competitive keyword with a new method. Using this method, I can easily see my free classified ads in TOP 5 in Google. Remember, it will take ages for your website to reach on 1st page of Google. But the free classified ads websites are having authority and page rank both so they will stick to 1st page quickly. As you know, the motive your 1st page ranking is traffic. Then it does not matter, whether my website is on the first page or my free classified is on first page. i wonder how many ask this question . how can you be the first for a keyword ? do you think the other won't ask the same thing ? it's hard to be the first for good keywords,because there are already quality websites that are taking this position . you need to do a really good job to take their place . by time,having great content,and lots of QUALITY related backlinks,you will be able to do this . the most important thing is to have great content,better then the competion,and other sites will link to you . at first you need to promote that great content,so people would know about it . use social networks,bookmarks,directories (quality) ,get free backlinks by blog commenting (related to your niche) ,make videos and upload them to big name video sites like youtube (place a link to your site in the description,and in the video ) .make sure you use your keywords in the links (change the keywords as many times as you can ,don't use the same keyword over and over again ) aks for review in forums (with a direct link to your site) don't forget that you need time to do great things good luck
Investigate the top rankers with addons like SeoQuake, you can learn a lot from that And also if you're not some seo genius then focus on content!
Yes I know the general idea. I'm already on the first page of Google for a few keywords. The thing is I'm not first result and I want to get to the first page of Google for other important keywords and I want to know the best way and easiest to do this. I've seen posts about people explaining step-by-step how they took the first result in Google for pretty competitive keywords... these are the types of posts I'm looking for... that's the point of this thread.
There is no secret to this. It takes time and patience. If you are looking for a one hit kill solution, you will not find it. A good tip, however, is to try to generate buzz for the URL you are optimizing. A lot of hits from unique IPs can help SERP in the short term, but backlinks are the answer for the long term.
Patiente and serius work on your website will help!, I have some materials that will help you to be first ,but is just one no the solution.
Caden, It is very different to google page one for website than article. R=There are a lot of similarities, but also many differncse. If you want to PM me with specifics, I would be happy to show you some examples of my sites and articles, and how I had to do different things for each.

How to get to the first page ? Keyword Research. Some competitive keywords are a pipe dream while others are doable.
Being in top results for a very competitive word with a lot of old domains is a very difficult work and maybe you don't reach to this goal even in some years. But the main thing is to build relevant backlinks from high quality relevant websites for your keywords. But i suggest you to try for an average keyword to become successful.
Advice: You won't find anything here or elsewhere on the web. Do in-site SEO, get some backlink to begin with and test things. Test this, that, get that link, this one... test...test... Learn it by yourself
