You should try optimizing your site with as much content as possible. Maybe host s blog on a sub-domain such as I did. If you click on one of my footer links you will see that I have posted text below all my stores advertisements.

As well make sure you include your keywords in the meta-data for your website. This will help with your on-page optimization.

As well contact vertical markets and see if you can get some high quality links pointing to your site.

well that's a difficult question to answer. What i would advice ( common sense ) is that always at least optimize for the product that you are selling. cause when people are going for buying stuff, they most of the time will search for that product by product name ( model number etc.) Additionally for the generic keywords, you should enable user generated content ( user reviews and views etc) in that way, the user write the content for you and not vice versa.

    Hi
These are 7 following best steps to optimize E commerce website

If you have an ecommerce site – where you sell your own products, sell products as a reseller, or an affiliate site that is set up as an online store – you might be scratching your head trying to find ways to properly optimize it.
Experts will tell you that Content Is King! but its not always easy coming up with content ideas for an online store. And unless you sell one-of-a-kind items, even your product descriptions are probably duplicated across the web on other ecommerce sites.
Here are 7 simple ways to optimize an online store or ecommerce site, even if you sell a common product. Use these easy steps to get better search engine rankings, more links and more traffic…
    1.
First, you want to make sure that each page of your online store is properly optimized. Consider creating a page for each individual product in your store so that you can take advantage of longtail keyword phrases.
    2.
Keep in mind that on-page optimization is only a small part of the equation. Quality inbound links to each page of your site will carry even more weight with the search engines.
The goal is to get links. Of course, its harder to get links to sales pages than it is to get links to quality content – so your job becomes adding something link-worthy to your ecommerce site…
    3.
For unique content, start with your product descriptions. Even if it is a common product, re-word the descriptions so that they are unique as possible. Add as much detail about the product as you can.
    4.
Cross-reference related items between individual product pages. You might mention accessories, or even similar products. This adds relevant content to each page, and also creates healthy internal linking.
    5.
Product Reviews make for great content on an ecommerce site, and they also attract potential buyers. Use Social Q&A sites such as MyLot.com, Yahoo Answers and Askville.com to request reviews. You can post a casual query and ask for user experience & feedback (noting that you may reprint their answers on your-ecommerce-site.com).
Another option is to post a classified ad on Craigslist.org and offer a small fee for stories/reviews.
    6.
Go ’social’ with it! Create profiles on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and other social sites. Put feelers out on each of these sites to find people who use and love your products. Invite them to submit a photo & brief story/review to be featured at your-ecommerce-site.com
You might also consider running a contest and letting them vote for best photo or best story submission. Make it fun!
    7.
Add quality content to your online store that will help your visitors make their buying decision. Ideas might include “how to choose your first __” or “how to use __ properly”, just as examples. Get creative. If you sell camping gear, you can write a checklist for the products they will need for their camping trip. If you sell car parts you can publish how-to tips.
Of course, its always best to let your target market tell you exactly what they want to read. Use WordTracker to research longtail keyword phrases in your niche. Often these 4-5 word phrases that are being searched will generate great ideas for content that you can add to your website.

    Thanks and Regards.

i would suggest you to start a blog along with your e-commerce domain. People are more likely to read rather than purchasing online. so you can set up a blog on word press or maybe in the original domain and write content frequently (if possible then daily). share your well written content on social media sites such as twitter, facebook, digg etc.. your written text will do your work and hopefully you will drive great traffic on your site through your blog if the content is appealing.

Yeah, In fact, E commerce site consists of images. So your focus should be optimization of images by entering ALT attribute having keywords in it. Image url should also be appropriate with main directory as ''/image'' and by creating sub directories in it.

Here are 7 easy suggestions that will help you in optimizing your e-commerce website:

    • Use keywords/key phrases: If possible, try to create a page for each individual product in your store so that you can take advantage of longtail keyword phrases. Also make sure that the keywords you select are simple but specific because they’re the terms you expect visitors to type into the search engine in order to locate your site.

    • Ensure quality inbound links: Search engines give credit to internal links because they indicate the level of usefulness for the visitors. Therefore, be sure to link your relevant content together by using the proper anchor text and linking to quality and related content.

    • Add unique product/service descriptions: Unique product/service descriptions are a great way to increase the traffic to your site. Re-word product descriptions to ensure that they are as unique as possible. Additionally, you could also add as much detail about the product or service as possible.

    • Include quality content to your online store: Including quality content that is of a useful nature to your visitor can help in optimizing your site. For example, if your site sells cosmetics, you could include content on health and beauty tips, how to extend the shelf life of cosmetics, etc.

    • Create profiles on social media sites: Social Media Optimization is now an integral part of SEO. Be sure to create profiles on MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and other social sites and update them regularly.

    • Include product reviews on your website: This is an integral part of optimization since it not only helps generate content for your site but also helps in attracting potential buyers. Use Social Q&A sites such as MyLot.com, Yahoo Answers and Askville.com to request reviews. Alternatively, you could also post queries within your website asking for user experience and feedback.

    • Cross-reference related items: Cross-referencing related items between individual product pages helps in adding relevant content to each page and also creates healthy internal linking, which in turn will increase your search engine rankings.

Start link wheels and create different blogs from web 2.0 websites. And try to get back link from that blogs by giving unique content related your products and services and put your website link on particular keyword. Try to generate quality back links from niche sites. Do some product submission in different product submission website with product image and description and price, you can also create product feed.
