    Well, the problem is that there is a message: Could not create directory. /public_html
    That pops whenever I install a new plugin.

    Maybe its just due to file permission (directory permission) issue IMO.

    Try to make it 777 on the permission and I think try removing it and then upload a fresh one. That could help.

    delete the upgrade folder in wp-content , created a new upgrade folder and chmod to 777
