I checked but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

I did notice that that particular web site wanted me to register
    before I could enter.

I wouldn't worry about this, but what I would look into is if you stop getting traffic from there they what do you have left. Make sure you diversify your efforts better.

This is a possibility, or maybe you picked up a link that you don't know about that is referring this traffic.

I am getting quite a few natural searches also.
I think it's like you said.
Maybe someone picked up one of my rss feeds and has posted it to that site...
    ...Very nice if they did.
I have about 30 different pings that I auto send, for each new post.

This is a world news blog.
Are there any tips on getting more natural traffic to these types of blogs?
I have to hit the tweet button on each new post but it would
be nice if I had something that would submit to many other places automatically,
each time I post, then just me tweeting to my own twitter account.

I want to politely slam the internet with each post, automatically. :)

Yes, I had this happen to me on some of my websites/blogs. It's actually normal In the beginning because you are still gaining traffic natural searches also. Just keep marketing it and you should be fine :)

It could be that your content was published on their site with your wepage link.

    Thanks for the replies folks.
Is there any way to auto post to certain places to gain even more traffic and back links?

Use a social network sharing plugin, with icons pointing to the various social networks. Then, use the link yourself to post to popular services like digg. Anyhow, if your content is not unique enough or provoking enough, your posted links will hardly get any attention. Getting started is always difficult, so just keep trying.

ANYHOW, if you use a social network sharing plugin, make sure that all links are marked as nofollow, otherwise you will lose link juice in favor of social networks. Even though, recently, it seems that Google has gotten smarter about this, at least in a couple of websites I worked for.

    Thanks for the reply.
Can I assume that I will have to go into my html tab for each post and insert this link?
    <a href="link here" rel="nofollow">text here</a>

If so, can it go anywhere or is there a specific location?

Also, I assume that you are talking about links back to another site, correct?
Or is this with any ad/banner link as well?

    Hello again.
I have done some research and now it leads me to a question:
I want to make sure that I am understanding yu properly MagnetiCat.
I am using sociable for now and I want to ask, witch links are you talking about changing to nofollow
and where do I go to change them in the code. (or is Sociable hardwired as "nofollow")?

    Google indexes all my pages.
Will changing links to "nofollow" hamper googles indexing?

    Thanks for your help.

I visited odesk and I would be concerned too if all my traffic was coming from there. Nonetheless, you are definitely not hacked, and you should probably try to take advantage of the traffic by offering some info that is "job" related.

Just a few of the visits are from there, as of today.
That is definitely something to look into.

Splashtech, the "nofollow" thing I was referring to is limited to social network tools like Sociable. These plugins often link back to social networks without adding the "nofollow" to the link, thus sending them valuable referrals from your website. In general, I think it is good practice doing so when it comes to social networks, since they almost never link back to you without "nofollow" in their links.

This said, broadening the discussion, Google recommends NOT to use nofollow for sculpting your pagerank. And in my experience, even though this might go against what others are writing, enabling or disabling nofollow in blogs with REAL content (not automated stuff, I have no experience with automated blogs) has no significant effect in the way your website ranks on Google. Other search engines might handle things differently, but there is a good Wikipedia page on this you may want to check.

So is there an easy to add the nofollow code to my sociable link buttons
and any future buttons that I may add, as I join new/more social sites and add their buttons to my post pages?
