You need to read the bible with a good enough unbiased heart in order to get the roots of Christianity and God's decisions. God, who we believe is holy trinitarian (son, father and holy spirit)- not 3 but all in 1 form (This is a whole another topic if you want to get into more details), had to send his only precious son for human salvation. Son had to come in flesh and even though he had authority from heaven and miraculous work, he came in flesh, obeying human laws. That includes Birth, Hunger, Death. He was even challenged by Satan. Now, Saint Mary is a virgin. It was clear that there was no relationship at all. Why virgin Mary? She had a pure heart that is why she was chosen by God.

I maintain my religion. I have studied and practised it for years. I have worked it. Yet I have a hard time believing in an all powerful God. I just do. Its not for lack of trying.

I have seen people in difficulty use their religion to pick them up from miserable circumstances. They believe in something far bigger than themselves. It is a blessing. It helps their lives.

OTOH; religions have created many wars through the centuries. That is a crime. Religions are used to attack people. That is a crime.

Religion, IMHO, has its pros and cons.

 

I always have a hard time with the "pick a religion for comfort" approach. It may help you through difficult stages, but what good does it do you in the end if it turns out to be a good sounding lie?
