We get some good free traffic and a few customers each month. Have to be careful about spamming people you actually know.

I have seen some shopping sites getting fans and costumers when they give discount codes and sample gifts.

In my experience facebook is not such a good option. I created a page and a ppc advert. I made a total of three $20 sales from my $100 investment. I think twitter is meant to be a better alternative.

Facebook like any other advertising network, works when you have a targeted audience. People on facebook like pictures, and short status updates.

Ikea ran a fantastic campaign recently on Facebook where they posted tons of pics of their new range, who ever tagged an item first got it for free! They had mass appeal and tagging people made it viral.

So of course it works, you just have to create a makreting concept that fits with the current way people use the site.

You may post your ads on fb and hence may draw traffic by getting hits from people on your sites .

Hmm... I cannot understand how that stuff work. Do you open accounts as private persons or for your company's name?
What sort of information do you write in your profile there? I'd like to drive traffic to our site. And I don't want to chat with people about nothing there.

The amount of friends is crucial for your site/fb-page to get viral.

I have been a casual user of facebook for friends and family. I have had companies try to friend me or people promoting a product and it's an instant decline from me. Most facebook users distrust it unless it's a highly recognizable product. There are so many people trying to scam or steal passwords on facebook that it's hard to trust anyone trying to sell something. However, it's possible with some very hard work and dedication I would guess. You'd have to be head and shoulders above the rest of the people

My advice would be not directing the Facebook traffic directly to the offer but to a free report first containing your afiliate links as people visiting facebook are not in the buying mood so you need to get into the shoes of your visitors all the time whether it's facebook or tagged.

Facebook is in my opinion , the best way to promote your website ... Twitter , I think , sucks (for me)

I have over 4 200 facebook friends and 20 - 40 new friends per day (they are inviting me , not me inviting them) ... My Fan and Group page is close to 1 500 fans and my website is NOT launch yet !! . I think that you need a targeted niche / audience if you want to succeed on facebook though

If you want to succeed you NEED a facebook account BUT it will take ALOT of your time.

I'm sort of in the same boat - I've tried to think of a way that I could get Facebook to work for promoting my business(es), but I just don't know how to do it appropriately. More than anything, I do not want to create an account just to spam people. But at the same time, I have no interest in joining Facebook if I can't promote my business.

I think it depends on your products and the quality of your site and the basis of your posting on facebook. Only last week I bought an item from an online shop as they had posted it on facebook and it was the perfect gift for my grandmother...

Yes you can get customers from Facebook but unlike Twitter, FB is about connecting and building relationships.

    1. Become SOCIAL and interact,
    2. Provide good content,
    3. Build a fans page or start a group

Do these things and yes you can get customers. Does it happen over night no, not at all.

Yes you can make money with facebook advertising and building fan pages... you need a lot of friends though - the more the better.

Facebook like most other sites requires a little likability to come out in you. A lot of people just post ad links on their pages and they get no results. You have to understand the "friendly" part of social bookmarking.
