OSCommerce is still top of the line for me. I like the community because there are several addons you can get to modify your store to your needs. The problem with it is that it isn't very SEO friendly so you'll need to change some things on it. I still think it is just an easy to use cart.

I manage few stores and all of them are based on different shopping carts. Honestly, all shopping carts aren't easy to use. But I found useful windows software which simplifies routine management of osCommerce shopping cart - it's store manager for oscommerce. This software is really powerful and eases my job.

Magento and Zencart are mostly used to develop Ecommerce website because of it's robust admin panel. These cart also provide seo modules which helps you to make make web site SEO friendly. I am developing ecommerce site using these cart for last many years and very satisfied with service and modules they are providing.

the "best" is going to depend on a lot of things: what are you selling? Is it simple items like a towel or complex, like a shirt (color/size). Do you need integration with a POS? How many items are you going to have? Is the cart PABP compliant (VERY IMPORTANT). How many transactions are you going to process in a day/hour/minute? Are you going to use a single machine or a server farm setup? Lots of questions.

If you're really serious and want to actually make some good cash, you're going to shell out some serious bank for a descent cart. It's better to go ahead and do it now, so you'll have it all figured out when you start making big $$$.

My favorites are Magento and ASPDotNetStoreFront.

I would recommend you looking into Prestashop. It is so user friendly that I was using it at FULL SPEED the moment I had it installed. You can try out the demo at prestashop.com

    My favorite is www.QuickCart.com.

It's easy to use (no programming required!), has a bunch of tools: WYSIWYG page builders, Unlimited Categories / Sub-Categories, Dynamic Product Options, Dynamic FAQ builders, Designer tools, SSL Built-In, and integrates with pre-existing websites, as well as Authorize.net, PayPal, Google and LinkPoint easily.

If you're interested, check out their free trial. It'll let you create your store and, if you like what you see, upgrade it to the full version without any extra hassle.

There's no transaction or startup fees either.

    Try it out

Compared to other alternatives, I don't think Magento is known for simple and easy customization.
