lol This seriously must be a morning-only problem (well, a "morning mostly" problem perhaps). After that one person's spam yesterday morning, it eased off. I woke up this morning though to another big group I had to deny. Not a good way to start a day. Midnight might be the "witching hour"... but apparently 8am is the "spamming hour."

There is a big influx in number of article directories popping up today. Including mine! The mantra has become - submit your articles to as many directories as possible. If the submitter follows this mantra then he/she just wants to submit - they don't care whether they get accepted or denied.

It's like - Just Another Article Directory theme. So let us just submit - who has time to read the guidelines.

Another thing I have observed - SEO companies charging for submissions. A lot of people hire them. These SEO companies do exactly what I just mentioned. Submit articles. They don't care about guidelines. Out of some 10,000 article directories, I am sure few hundreds will publish their articles.

You can go back and check which directories are publishing your articles but they don't spend time/resources on doing that.

So I guess denying articles due to spam will be part of all the directory owners. Don't be alarmed and discouraged :)

Oh and readers are welcome to my directory as well (Allowed anchor links in BODY of the article till end of September to DP readers).

Mine's not an article directory... it's an article deep link directory. ;) People submit free deep links to their articles... basically I'm categorizing articles across the Web, w/o the business and other kinds of results that pop up in search engines (and also to help people find more than just sites that SEO their article pages to death). :) So submit links from your article site to my directory and get some free one-way deep links.... just read the rules first! lol ;)

Yea - I did notice it is not article directory but article deep link directory. I will definitely submit links but I should have some articles :) I only have one as of now. Waiting for DP people to submit some good content.

And yes - will read the RULES :)

You have a very nice article directory. Your site layout looks sharp and your colors are beautiful.
Good luck with it. By the way, I will submit a few articles when I get a chance.

I'm sorry. I didn't look that far into it. A lot of article directories just start by mass-adding ones published on other free article sites and such, so I incorrectly assumed you did too. It's nice to see one starting from scratch. Good luck with it. :)

This spam problem is just part of the territory. You just need to invest in a script that can deal with it. Most of the spam you get will be automatic, and you will be able to successfully deal with the majority using a combination of captcha, word filters, IP blocking or throttling and domain blacklisting.

If your script doesn't allow you to do all or most of those things, then it just isn't up to the job of efficiently running a modern directory.

    Nice Directory Jenn

On your submision page add a big bold title: Deep Links Only, No Home Page Links

And then repeat it right above the field where a submitter will place their URL. Not quite as big as the title near top of page. But in bold red font. This may help.

Yes, that looks good. Hope it helps.

Maybe add the word "Internal" in front of "Article Pages"

Of course, as some have already mentioned, you will still get those who are quickly submitting to every directory they come across. They either dont bother to read, even with that bold redness right in front of the URL box, or try to sneak one past you.

    Blogmaster - Thanks. :)

Axemedia - Ironically, I've had more home page submissions since adding the line in red. lol Oh well. A bit frustrating, but hardly the end of the world. :)
