Long tail keyword can bring traffic, targeted traffic but i wouldnt say "a lot"
Long tails keyword mean that less competitive and more targeted, but it also mean that less search volume compare to single keyword

Long tail keywords, by definition, don't get as many searches as shorter phrases within that long-tail. However, when you have, say, 200 pages of articles on various topics (as my site does), the sum total of long-tail searches and clicks can add up to quite a lot of traffic.

What kind of truth do you asking or expecting to listen here?

    1. Long tail keywords are tend to easier ranking for both homepage and inner pages, especially after new Google Caffeine recent updated.
    2. Most of long tail keywords will not bring a huge amount of traffics compare to generic one but most of them are more targeted generally
    3. If you have more "relative" content pages, your website will have a higher chance to inner pages get traffics from long tail keywords. My "own assumption" is Google would judge each website overall theme and topic based on its overall content and not just homepage or a single page

I would define it as quality traffic from searchers who are seeking exact result from very specific term instead of general terms. Long-tail keywords give high ROI too but compare to general keywords, you would get lesser traffic from it...

The whole point of long tail keywords is that they are very targeted which usually means less traffic. However this means less competition meaning that website owners can gain a higher ranking in SERPS. Because long tail keywords are more specific they also mean that you can get higher quality traffic and hence the potential for more revenue generating opportunities.

Yes. Long tail keywords are also called "Buyers Keywords". They don't have much traffic but conversion rate is huge when compared to short and single keywords.

Long tail keywords are easy to rank for but give low traffic and good conversions. Keywords in between give respectable traffic, take some effort to achieve the rankings and have nice conversion rates. Unlike short keyword that are hard to rank though this bring a huge traffic to your site.

    As noted above:

    • Long tail keywords bring only modest traffic to individual pages. But that is usually highly focused traffic that is more likely to click on your link in the search results.

    • If you have lots of pages with lots of different long tail keywords, your website's total traffic from those long tailers can be substantial.

Long tail keywords do bring traffic and they are the ones which do not have much competition. But, the thing is they do not give you "a lot" amount of traffic.

    Hi

Can anyone clarify exactly what longtail keywords are?

From what I gather its using a whole phrase rather than just a single word? Is the idea to include that phrase within your website content or should you put them in your meta keywords, description, title etc?

Should you make specific pages optimised for specific longtail keywords?

If I were going for London Hotels, is a longtail version of this "London Hotels with swimming pool", "London Hotels close to Big Ben"?

    Thanks!

Not exactly. Google has made changes to ensure that long-tail searches lead to results favoring "higher quality" pages over lower quality pages. http://searchengineland.com/google-confirms-mayday-update-impacts-long-tail-traffic-43054

I actually love every algorithm change that works in favor of quality content ranking higher. That seems to be the intent of this algorithm update with regard to long-tail keywords.
