An interesting topic came up today - Marketing and Promotion. Are they the same thing? What are the differences? imo; Promotion - Face to face marketing Marketing - Means overall advertising to the public or niche market for the product(s) and/or services being sold. what do you think?
Promotion is more related to sales. As in, promotion has immediate effect on company revenues. Marketing is related to branding. It has long term effect on company revenues.
I did Marketing at Uni and my understanding is this; It works in a cycle and first comes; Promotion is the initial impact stuff with lots of hype and dancing girls handing out leaflets and t-shirts etc that gets your sales from 0 to loads in one day or a week! Marketing is the boring stuff that comes afterwards that keeps your current customers interested and slowly turns new customers away from what they use to your product or service Then comes more promotion such as a relaunch or special offer week etc with more Jazz and Glitz and Glamour and hopefully a big spike in customers Then comes the hard work with the slow Marketing work steadily increasing the customer base And so on ...
That's a good point. Promotion is when you hype up a product to gain immediate results while marketing is the non-stop process wherein you continuously market your products and services to increase your subscribers base and to brand your business.
Promotion is one of the methods used in the sphere of marketing so are advertising, public relations and some other methods. Promotion is a rat of marketing.
I heard someone saying "if you do a good marketing you don't need to promote (sell)". I think this is true.
When someone says, "I am promoting something" I don't necessarily always think face to face conversations. Heck, every time a sales person calls me I think that they are promoting something. I think they are very similar. I do see though how promoting isn't always talked about online and therefore it reminds of those annoying callers / sales people. I don't think it HAS to be that and only that though. I'm promoting several products right now.
Hello, Here is an article I wrote answering the same question: Marketing Vs. Advertising To your success!
Marketing is everything involed with getting your product to the customer: advertising(tv, radio, billboard), seo, promotion, social media...... Promotions is a niche of marketing such as coupons, in store demonstrations, giveaway's,...
Promotions are usually short-term to hype up a product. Marketing is the long-term cycle of gaining a basis of customers and keep new ones coming.
I think it is the same thing. I tend to tell my employees that promotion is a part of Marketing. That marketing is the OVERALL concept of the trade. I also try to make it easier by telling them that promotion is more often associated with the free methods of exposing your site whereas marketing is usually associated with the paying process. But in essence promotion and advertising are part of marketing.
Promotion is one of the four elements of marketing mix (product, price, promotion, distribution). Marketing is the process by which companies determine what products or services may be of interest to customers, and the strategy to use in sales, communications and business
Promotion are special offers created to increase interest and sales of a product or service. E.g 25% discount on balls for Father's Day Marketing is a complete science that determines how to get your product or service sold to consumers. Promotion is a common marketing strategy in every sector of business.
