Hard to make money on items that generally cost less than $10-15 when Amazon only pays 4-8%. I focus on items that cost $50 to $300 and do great. My sites average $50 to $100 per month, with a few sites making over $500 and only one site doing more than a grand. I make most of my money when I flip a site for a multiple of its monthly revenue.
Agreed! But if you can supply an ample amount of traffic, but ample in this instance would have to be HUGE. An Amazon Bookstore would be best as an addition to an existing site that has tons of traffic already. Mike Tansey
Thanks for all the Tips Regarding the amazon store. Does anyone know if its possible to mix books with other items. Can you have differnt tabs with differnt products in your store? -C
You can have anything you want in the Amazon catalog. For that matter, you can even mix offers from different sources. I commonly have Amazon and Ebay offers on the same page. I'm now playing with adding Shopzilla offers, as well. It's your website. You control what you want to offer, and how, not the shopping destination.
wouldn't be much of a store with only one product now would it. (Sorry I just had to say that) I would put as much in the store as you possibly can Mike Tansey
To add to what others have said, having a variety of products on your site increases your chances of good conversion. One of the tips suggested by another user here is to insert your links in the content of your blog or site. Hope that helps. Good luck.
I have been running Amazon Affiliate Program for like 4 months now and all i have earned is 20USD!! Im so lost right now I need a way to make some real cash. Im on the verge of giving this up!!
Amazon is not my best income stream, but it is getting better. I have sold a few technical & college related books (not on purpose) and because of their higher price then the commission, or referral fee as they call it, was pretty good. I like the Amazon Affiliate program, just need to make it more profitable. Just my 2 cents, Ira Mann
The problem with books is that they are low ticket items, which means you need HUGE number of targeted visitors to have enough sales and commission.
IMO the killing point of Amazon associate is the 24 hours cookies, anyway you can target the reader to computer books, maybe someone would buy a Macbook pro at the same time, who know?
The trick with Amazon is catching the visitor in a buying mood. So, for example with books, review a book, leave some suspense that entices the reader to buy the link, give them a reason to want the book. Amazons cookie lasts only 24h that means you have to "catch" the customer at the end of the decision making and buying process, not at the beginning, when they just browse around for information, SY
Agreed. With such a short cookie (24hrs) you have to find people who are going to buy now. The problem with a lot of big ticket purchases is that people take more time to think about the purchase and research it. If you can position yourself as a good source of information that answers their questions you may be able to pick up some commissions.
