No worries folks. I have alot more coming. That was merely the tip the iceberg. As soon as I can free up a few hours I will be publishing a range of things.

@Canonical... bummer about lendingtree sorta. I am running a campaign for a huge site like that for a marketing firm in Vegas. It is not much fun when some guy in suit thinks he knows whats best. That job is quite the headache. Marketing firm is pretty cool though. Those folks are pretty nice.

Even with article directory submissions, make sure you mix your anchor text up - otherwise Google could dismiss your hours of work as artificially gnerated and just dismiss all the links as spam.

Hello everyone, quite the bustle of comments. I like!

Nigel, you know your stuff. I aspire to be well knowledged as you one day.

My web projects are small, you might even call them "micro sites". I tried branding a large website in the Green Tea niche, the website that suffered the massive crash from sporadic backlinking, and it did not go over too well. So I am setting up some smaller content-based sites with AdSense for now. When I get the hang of adequate backlinking, I will go back into reaunching my large Green Tea project.

Here is my backlinking strategy for my articles.

    1) Keyword in every article title. If my website is "Best Computer Monitors" I might switch up the text, "Buying the very best when it comes to computer monitors." That's just an example.
    2) Give what people want. I do research and write content based on what people are searching for.
    3) Unique articles to a wide variety of directories. I used to only write for ezine articles. Now I write for about 15. I strive to submit 2 different articles to each of them. Time consuming, but solid in my opinion.

    Now here are my problems/concerns/dilemmas:

    1) It is hard finding other sites related to my niche that would want to promote mine.
    2) I want to promote on authority sites without spamming w/ profile pages or blog comments...
    3) I wand to one day work less. I'm spending hours and hours writing and building and submitting, and my first site hit page 1 of Google, but the others are on page 40-50 of G.

And one more question: When people say "Diversity of backlinks" they usually imply, forum posts, blog comments, profile pages, article directories. How does Google know to benefit someone who has 'diverse' backlinks? IE, how can Google tell an article directory from a blog site? I am asking this because I want to know if I am still achieving "diversity" by having articles hosted on 15 different directories with different article titles/content on each one.

Thanks for your amazing input everyone!
    Good luck to all

If you are asking me, the OP, then I will say this:

Volume has not worked out for me, and I have not had backlinks on enough high PR websites to tell a difference quite yet (even a root domain of PR8, the individual page my backlink is on might only be PR2). So I am not stating anything new or unique. I am simply saying I am changing up my game because spammy-looking backlinks are not working for me personally.

Just read a few posts. Well done, Canonical! I one day want to start an advice site like that, though I have a lot of learning to do before doing so. I don't want to be the Newbie in the forums with an "SEO consulting service" link in his Sig while posting a thread wondering if the dupecontent penalty exists, LOL!!

    @ breadnbutter

Yeah, it’s hard. It’s even harder to write content that will be accepted and published by those websites (especially with a dofollow link) … but that’s exactly the reason Nigel is talking about 30 links vs 500 links … Quality links are hard to get, but spending time on acquiring 1 quality link is better than wasting time on getting 30 low quality links.

Easier said than done, besides very few “authority” websites publish guest post (there are exceptions though). At the end of the day, the term “authority website” is kind of a buzz word and nothing more.

No surprise, that’s the typical life of an SEO professional … One has to invest quite a lot of time in SEO, less work is not possible, however you can lessen your workload by hiring another professional and assigning some tasks. Of course, you can do it only after you are established and getting good steady income. Till then, keep working hard & best of luck.

Too many backlinks in a short period of time kill the site.

so far all i have done was post on forums with links and sigs to my site and I started generating traffic just from that. Its true that google ignors those links and its better to use article submitions but I will start using both and not cust one off just because its value is low. I just have to work harder.

Yeah. Article directory is a great way to build backlink. But I'm concern if something bad happen to those sites. So I also build my own article directory scodro.com . First I bought a domain with PR 3 and fill it up with content
