I would like to start using Twitter as a type of marketing tool but don't really know where to start. Do you think I should make some fake accounts, gain followers to them and then market via their status's...or get people to update their status's as a referrer and give them something in return? Thanks!
if you plan on marketing through twitter only, good luck. Using twitter only is like using stumble upon, you'll get clicks but you will be lucky to get any sales unless every follower you have is targeted.
Thanks for the help! Technically speaking though every follower on Twitter will be targeted to my niche because it involves Twitter itself =).
Twitter I find to be amazing. That is, I find it amazing to see all those little message boxes that appear in the bottom of my screen but go too fast for me to take notice of and I never see them again.
I have to Say I agree with Curtis. No Matter how many followers I have, twitter dosent seem to convert. The only people that convert to sales are those that followed me via my Blog. Use it in conjunction with other marketing methods. Not in silo.
I have a friend who does ok on Twitter. But it takes a large volume of tweets and a lot of targeting. Personally, I haven't found twitter to be worth it.
Even with a Twitter-related product, you need people to actually click on your links, and people tend to do that only with people who they have an acutal relationship with. You have to remember that people on Twitter for the most part are getting bombarded with links all day, because everybody's using it to promote their stuff and everybody has the same idea (Get a lot of followers, then blast your link over and over again). Unless you're manually checking accounts before you follow people, many of the people you follow won't even bother reading your tweets because they're too busy trying to sell their own stuff. Sure if you just build up a ridiculous amount of followers, you may get the odd person who clicks through to your website and ends up buying something, but for the most part, unless people have some sort of actual interaction with you, your tweets will be ignored. That's been my experience, anyway, and I've heard similar stories from many other would-be Twitter marketers.
What i hate and experienced with Twitter marketing is, some people will just tweet many times a day, just like spamming, i immediately unfollow them, even they have excuse to tweet because of their audience's time difference. Plus twitter got over capacity problems which is often happening nowadays
I personally have found that Twitter does not convert well or at all. The fact that they allow you to follow 110% of the number that follow you seems to defeat the purpose. If they limited the number of people you could follow to 100 or so, then Twitter would become a much more effective marketing tool and much less of a spam tool because what you tweeted would actually matter. Mine is totally automated now. I did this so that I wouldn't waste time on it.
