If we have to be taxed by the government I can't think of a better way to spend the money than helping the sick, which makes the country a little happier and a little safer. We all know what you'd prefer they spend the money on, death and destruction maybe?
Small government yo at it again! Yeah, that sums it up. As usual. Given that the military is one of the few expenditures actually outlined in the Constitution, I'd say yeppers.
I don't believe in any direct taxes like income tax or capital gains tax but I am for the methods of taxation used pre-16th amendment. Ok. To me capitalism is a system where individual people make their own financial choices and socialism is a system where "almighty" government trys to solve peoples problems with public money but ends up creating more of them
No, but what I am saying is that Norway is a paradise when it comes to safety and the materialistic part of life. There are only about 40 killings every year, healthcare is free, they drive the most expencive cars in the world, have the biggest appartements, relatively cheap gasolin. This is why UN says (for the fifth year in a row) that Norway is the best country to live in. Personally I would be very happy if you could mention one thing that is better in the US than in Norway.
Why are we talking about how Norway might be better than the U.S.? This is supposed to be a discussion on socialism vs. capitalism.
What country is socialist? Norway is social democratic. We've somehow moved to social democratic instead of socialism in this thread. But if we were to talk about social democratic vs. capitalist, we'd be using good examples talking about those two countries and comparing what works.
Sorry for bringing in Norway, many says that they are socialistic. But now, I understand you are talking about countries like Cuba. But the US is not capitalistic ? I think that the US is the best example. Lets talk about US and Cuba.
Not really. Here are a few examples of how they are not capitalist: minimum wage, capital gains tax, income tax, agriculture subsidies, sin tax, anti trust, and many more.
Generally speaking, I'd probably agree with you on most things (concerning this)...but I do believe we should be careful with the idea that markets are completely unregulated. I know your not interfering that, but there's degrees of power that should be up to debate, and others that are obvious abuses of power.
