Well I think it does but not all the time. Put your targeted keywords in the first and second sentence of your article and then bold it. It might give you a big boost on SERP. I experienced this in some of my blogs.

Bold is a strange character in Google crawl bot and it is even difficult to get ppl seached for it. Suggest you to do a normal SEO tech that most other webmaster do is good. Do not try something strange as it is waste of your time.

Many of the top SEO gurus all say this:
    - put your keywords in the heading, the beginning of the first sentence, sprinkle 2 or 3 times in the content and again in the first sentence of the last paragraph
    - Make your keywords stand out for the search engine robots. Bold them, italicize them or both

One who strongly suggests this is Brad Fallon of StomperNet fame.

I don't think bolding will help much in your rankings, if at all. The one thing it does help for is people scanning your page. If they catch the keywords or key phrases they were hoping to find, they might be less likely to immediately bounce from your site.

Making bold one or two keywords does not do any harm. But don't overdo it

Instead of using bold, you can use <strong> tag. Use it, if they are having the option. In article submission hyperlinks in author and body section only gives you the traffic.

The keywords contained within <strong>, <b>, <em>, and <i> HTML elements ARE seen by most search engines as more important that other words within normal <p> type elements. Matt Cutts and others have confirmed this over the years. So they do have some tiny impact on rankings. But it is very minor.

However, the problem is that most idiots that know this will bold every occurence of the keyword they want the page to rank for making the page look like total crap... total spam. When I stumble onto pages like this I know immediately it's some rookie affiliate or spam site trying to rank for some keyword phrases, and that their content is more than likely total crap. So I hit the back button and go to a different site.

I almost never use this technique except for sub-headers that I can't make <h2>s for some reason (like in ezinearticles.com articles that I submit). I'll create sub-headers that contain my targeted keyword (or a slight variation) and bold them. This looks TOTALLY normal from a user perspective and adds a little weight to the keywords that are bolded from a ranking perspective.

The only other time I would use this technique is if within my content I am giving a definition of some keyword... I might bold or italicize the word being defined.

But other than those two cases, I think this is generally a terrible technique for trying to increase your rankings. It cheapens the look of the site. The negatives by far outweigh the tiny positive impact to rankings.

even if you bold every word of keywords on the article you created, it doesn't gives any advantage on your ranking. Having a lot of good backlinks is the only way to improve your rankings.
